Just after the debut of its next-generation Fire 8 tablet, Amazon has now unleashed the all-new family of Kindle devices. The new lineup includes the first full-color model, a “reimagined” Kindle Scribe, and the fastest Kindle Paperwhite ever. Amazon has tons of gear that is really just a different, more affordable version of tech products we see from other brands, but its Kindle lineup, at least for me, has managed to remain somewhat singular and unique as dedicated readers backed by the extensive lineup of titles Amazon offers for them. And everything is getting a 2024 refresh starting today, let’s dive in below.
Amazon debuts next-gen family of Kindle devices
- Kindle Colorsoft $280
- New Amazon Kindle Scribe $420
- All-new Amazon Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition $200
- New Amazon Kindle $110
All-new Kindle Colorsoft
One of the headliner releases of today’s announcement is the all-new Kindle Colorsoft. It is designed to bring “color to Kindle without compromise” alongside everything that customers have already loved about the lineup – “high contrast, fast page turns, an auto-adjusting front light, and weeks of battery life.”
It allows users to browse covers in full color on the Kindle Store and in their personal libraries as well as book photos and images, and even “add color highlights that you can easily search later.”
The new reader makes use if an oxide backplane with custom waveforms designed to provide “higher contrast on both color and black-and-white content” alongside what Amazon refers to as a “new light-guide with nitride LEDs that, when combined with our custom algorithms, enhances color and increases brightness, all without washing out details.”
Additional features include wireless charging, up to 8 weeks of battery life, and a waterproof design so “you can bring it with you in the bath or take it to the beach without having to worry.”

New Amazon Kindle Scribe
Next up, we have the all-new Kindle Scribe – the next-generation of Amazon’s tablet meets reader with a stylus-ready design. The display has new white borders as well as a smooth, paper-like texture “that makes it look and feel like you’re writing on a sheet of paper.”
Amazon says this new model provides a first-of-its-kind in-book writing experience with something known as “Active Canvas” – you can “write your thoughts directly in the book when inspiration strikes.” This allows your notes to become part of the page with the book’s text dynamically flowing around it – “if you increase the font size, change the font style, or the book layout changes, the note remains visible exactly where you want it so you never lose any meaning or context.”
Additional features will arrive soon as well:
…you’ll also be able to write your notes in the side panel and easily hide them when you are done. The all-new, built-in AI-powered notebook enables you to quickly summarize pages and pages of notes into concise bullets in a script font that can be easily shared directly from the notebook tab. You can also refine your notes into a script font, so it becomes legible while maintaining the look and feel of handwriting.

All-new Kindle Paperwhite
Next we have the all-new Kindle Paperwhite – it is both the “fastest Kindle ever” and the “thinnest Kindle Paperwhite ever.” Amazon says the Paperwhite model has been its best-selling model since its debut in 2022, and everything is about to get even faster and more responsive with 25% faster page turns, a larger, 7-inch display
Features at a glance:
- Our fastest Kindle ever – The next-generation 7“ Paperwhite display has a higher contrast ratio with 25% faster page turns.
- Upgrade your reading experience – The Signature Edition features an auto-adjusting front light, wireless charging, and 32 GB storage.
- Ready for travel – The ultra-thin design has a larger glare-free screen so pages stay sharp no matter where you are.
- Escape into your books – Your Kindle doesn’t have social media, notifications, or other distracting apps.

And lastly, the all-new entry-level Kindle reader, now available in a new Matcha colorway:
Weighing in at just 158g, the new entry-level Kindle is small enough to fit in your hand or carry in your back pocket—and it’s packed with premium Kindle features. It has a 300 ppi, glare-free display, now with faster page turns, higher contrast ratio, and a front light that is 25% brighter at max setting—as bright as Kindle Paperwhite. It comes in a fun and fresh new Matcha color, offers weeks of battery life from a single charge, and has 16 GB of storage for holding thousands of books—all of which make it the ideal device for reading anywhere the day takes you.
