Update (9/12 2:45pm): The trade-in promo is outlined in this press release by Verizon.
Update (9/11 11:15am): The promo is still not back up on Verizon’s site, but the details can be found in this post made by a Verizon Wireless Customer Support rep.
Update (9/10 5:45pm): Looks like the promo has been removed Verizon’s website. We’re reaching out to Verizon to find out what is going on.
In light of Apple’s iPhone 6 announcements, we’re expecting a flurry of trade-in promos from carriers and trade-in services. We’ve already covered your best iPhone 6 trade-in options, but this Verizon promo stood out to us.
Verizon is promising a $200 gift card for any working iPhone 4/4s/5/5c/5s. Now, you can probably get a higher rate for all of the iPhone 5 models, but $200 for a 5-year old iPhone 4 is way above market value.
For example, Gazelle is currently offering $15 for a working Verizon 8GB iPhone 4 and $50 for a working AT&T 8GB iPhone 4. Amazon prices are better at ~$57 for similar configurations, but that’s still not close to the $200 Verizon is offering as part of this promo.
It’s not clear if it works on preorders or not, and other details remain scarce, so check back for the latest updates.

Can Verizon handle concurrent voice and data on their wireless LTE network now?
I was looking in the Verizon customer support forums and found this response from a Verizon rep from September 10 at 11:27 AM EST:
“Thanks so much for asking! We knew this would be a hot topic. Don’t trade in your phone before you get a new phone. We don’t want you to be phoneless.
You can accomplish with with pre-orders as well as upgrading in the stores.
Beginning on 9/12, for a limited time, customers can trade-in an iPhone 4, 4s, 5, 5c, and 5s from any carrier with the purchase of a new iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus and receive a $200 gift card (iPhone 4, 4s, 5, 5c) or $300 (iPhone 5s).
This can be done at the store or you can submit for the device trade in online at http://vz.to/17tYyaN.
It is imperative that you disable Find My iPhone http://vz.to/1wwKZbR prior to trading the phone in to us to ensure that you get the proper trade in amount.
The trade-in Apple iPhone must be in good working condition based on Verizon Device Recycling Program requirements:
• Phone can turn on and off.
• LCD screen is free of cracks and functioning correctly.
• Phone and connecting ports are free of visible corrosion and water damage.
• Battery is present.
• Phone and charging port are free of cracks and dents, and are not missing any pieces or chunks (not including cords or accessories).
• For iPhones running iOS 7 or higher, the Find My iPhone feature must be deactivated (turned off) before iPhone is traded in. -Tamara”

They also added this information:
“”For iPhones purchased through the preorder process you will receive the promotional gift card once you’ve traded in your current iPhone. Since most customers will need to use their current iPhone until the new one arrives, you may need to purchase the device up front. Once you receive the promotional gift card you will then be able to offset the price of what you paid for the new device. I hope this clarifies it for you!”
And:
”
The trade in program for the iPhone 6 is eligible for:
• New customers
• Existing customers
• Port-in
• Upgrade
• Add-a-line “
Thank you for this information! Nice job hunting it down.
No problem! I wanted to figure out my trade in options before I committed to a third party for less $$. Makes a difference of what storage capacity I spring for!
Also saw this, it clarifies how you would actually apply the $200 (or $300 for iPhone 5S) to the cost of the new iPhone 6/6+. Basically you bill the cost of the new phone to your Verizon account, not directly to a credit card at check out. When you get the gift card a week or two later, you apply it to your account, negating $200 of the cost of your new iPhone.

(Oh, and I _have_ a 4 to trade in. Didn’t mean to write like a cat.)
Check out our latest update for more information.
Sorry I should’ve mentioned this in my original post. I got this information from talking to a Verizon rep. She did not say they changed the promo, that was my opinion after seeing it disappear off their website and then talking to the rep.
Verizon changed their promo… now it is $100 for iphone 4, $200 for 5 and $300 for 5s. Can you confirm/get statement form them?
Can you share a link to where you saw this updated information?
