Tested: Journey’s Find My leather key organizer multi-tool – much more elegant than an AirTag keychain [20% off]

Journey has quickly started to implement Apple Find My into many of its Apple accessory offerings, the latest of which include its new steel tumbler and the LOC8 URBAN Leather Key Organizer we are taking a look at today. This hands-on review also includes impressions on the mostly identical MOTION Key Organizer model as well, both of which are now seeing some notable price drops when added to your cart. If you’re looking for some trackable key organization for your EDC, head below for a closer look.

9to5Toys’ Take

I have tested out some of these sorts of key organizers from other brands, some with Find My included, but so far the Journey LOC8 UBRAN and MOTION Key Organizers are my favorite – the only difference between the two is the clean leather finish on the UBRAN model.

While I, admittedly, like to keep things particularly minimalist on my keychain – one or two keys max, and a key fob, I also like the idea of having an elegant key solution that also provides apple Find My tracking. I really don’t like the look and feel of having an AirTag clip dangling off my keychain.

The Journey model presents a relatively compact and elegant looking solution that can hold more than enough keys for me – up to six keys alongside the included bottle opener/box cutter tool that it comes installed with – and looks particular nice doing it. The width of the unit, due to the sort of rubberized strap that connects the front panel (this is where the thin line battery and charging connector is housed) with the back panel of the unit, actually gets smaller if you install less keys.

In other words the whole unit isn’t entirely rigid, it maxes out with six keys but gets a bit more slim with less. I like this.

Now let’s talk installation and setup. This is another highlight of this unit.

I have used some from other brands that require you pull a screwdriver out or something along those lines to open up the holder, install your keys, and screw it back together. That’s certainly not a big deal, but Journey is using a super handy thumb screw here – you simply flip the flap on the pre-installed screw and undo it to install your keys. The whole thing comes back together just as easily and makes for tweaks to your everyday key carry particularly quick and simple. Nice.

The keys install nicely, the keys flip in and out of the holder nicely when you need to use them, and the box cutter/bottle opener is a nice addition, albeit something you tend to get with many of these sorts of key organizers. Now let’s go over the charging and Find My action.

There’s no real surprises here when it comes to the Find My support – it works just as you would expect and just like every other third-party Find My kit. You simply load it up into the Find My app on your phone and you’re good to go – full Find My map location, Left Behind notifications, and an onboard speaker so you can make it sing when you’re (hopefully) nearby. Again, no surprises, just what you would expect.

Now for the battery and charging. This is perhaps the only minor grip I have with this thing (other than the price)…it should have wireless charging. Think about it, you come home from a long day at work or running errands, you empty your pockets out onto your MagSafe charging rig and done.

But this key organizer does not have wireless charging – there are two magnetic contact points hidden on the inside you connect the included USB-C cable to juice it back up. It’s not the worst, it only takes an hour to charge up fully, and it lasts for 4 months once you do it. But I would much rather not have to deal with the proprietary cable – it’s only USB-C on one end – and would love to be able to just drop it on the bottom of my MagSafe charger when I come home. But so be it, not really a huge deal.

In the end, I like this thing. I wish it charged wirelessly and I wish it was half the price, but it is also the nicest Find My key organizer I have tested out and I particularly like the leather URBAN model – it’s just super clean and doesn’t even have the subtle Journey lettering on it. The Find My action is a wonderful added piece of mind when I leave the house, the whole thing looks great, and it feels really nice in my hand/pocket.
