LG unveils ‘world’s fastest OLED monitor’ that can switch between 540Hz QHD and a whopping 720Hz HD mode

After unveiling the ‘world’s first 5K2K-resolution bendable OLED display’ earlier this year in January, LG is now back again with another world’s first – this one particularly aimed at competitive gamers who love speedy displays. The brand showcased a bunch of new panels at the COEX event in South Korea, and one of them happens to be an OLED with support for up to a whopping 720Hz refresh rate. It’s a 27-inch unit that lets you switch between two different modes, and you can learn more about it in detail below.

This is one of the many new displays LG is showcasing at the COEX event, but it immediately caught our attention for being a wickedly fast model for gaming. It’s essentially a 27-inch OLED panel with a 540Hz refresh rate at native 1440p resolution. It offers DFR (Dynamic Frequency & Resolution) technology – something which some UltraGear monitors already offer – to switch resolutions and run at an incredible 720Hz refresh rate. LG says it can achieve a 720Hz refresh rate in an “HD” mode, which is likely 720p. Here’s what LG says –

LG Display’s 540Hz 27-inch OLED panel (QHD) applies Dynamic Frequency & Resolution (DFR) technology to achieve an ultra-high refresh rate of up to 720Hz (HD) depending on the user’s needs.

While 720p is not an ideal resolution anybody would prefer using in 2025, it’s still great to see the brand pushing the limits to achieve something new. It’s a promising start to get us better displays in the future with higher resolutions supporting such refresh rates. Additionally, this new display covers 99.5% DCI-P3 color gamut and offers up to 1,500 nits of brightness, so it’s quite capable and more than just a speedy monitor for gaming. You can expect the picture quality of this to match the models already out there on the market, but with the added benefit of being fast for gaming.

LG has showcased a bunch of other displays at the same event, and you can learn more about them right here. With all these new displays seemingly ready for demo, it’s safe to say that LG will have plenty of new monitors and TVs to showcase at CES early next year.
