SanDisk debuts three new portable SSDs with up to 4TB storage and speeds hitting 4,000MB/s

SSD prices are continuing to climb and showing no signs of slowing down, but that’s not stopping SanDisk from introducing new models. The brand has just unleashed three new lineups of portable drives – the standard SanDisk Portable SSD, the Extreme Portable SSD, and the Extreme PRO SSD. These drives stick with the familiar design seen on previous-gen models and will be available in multiple storage options to suit different needs. The SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD is available now, while the other two models are set to launch later this year. You can check out the full lineup and additional details below.

SanDisk debuts new portable SSDs

SanDisk says the Extreme Portable SSD is now available, although listings haven’t gone live for purchase just yet – we’ll keep an eye out for these. It will be offered in 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB capacities, with a 500GB model planned for later. This model delivers transfer speeds of up to 2,000MB/s and can move “up to 1,000 high-resolution photos in under 60 seconds.” If you need something faster, the Extreme PRO models are worth considering. These are aimed at professional photographers, filmmakers, and designers, and they’re built for more demanding workloads with speeds of up to 4,000MB/s. These will be available in 2TB and 4TB options, with an 8TB version coming later. Lastly, there’s the standard SanDisk Portable SSD, which is better suited for casual users looking to transfer files or store extra media.

All three models feature a durable build with IP65 ratings for dust and water resistance. The standard SanDisk Portable SSD offers drop protection of up to two meters, while the Extreme and Extreme PRO variants are rated to withstand drops of up to three meters. Additionally, both the Extreme and Extreme PRO models include password protection with 256-bit AES hardware encryption for added security. The Extreme and Extreme Pro models also have up to a five-year warranty, whereas the standard drive tops out with a three-year limited warranty.

We don’t know much about the pricing of SanDisk’s Extreme Pro and the standard drives that are slated hit the scene later this year. The brand has, however, currently listed Extreme portable SSD starting at $259.99 shipped for 1TB. The 2TB and 4TB variants are said to cost $459.99 and 919.99 shipped.
