Following last year’s GWP SEGA Genesis controller release, LEGO’s new SEGA Genesis Console set is now official. Set for release next month, we have some details below.
Dating back nearly half a decade at this point, LEGO has delivered a host of nostalgic gaming hardware builds ranging from that epic 2,646-piece NES that came with an entire old-school TV build, though the Atari 2600 set, and more recently when the Game Boy handheld got its brick-built debut last September.
There is also a rumored/leaked $159.99 PlayStation 1 console build in the works for December 2026, but before that, it’s SEGA’s turn.
The new 40926 SEGA Genesis Console set appears to be a more…let’s say, child-friendly, or a far less formidable build at 479 pieces and with a relatively light $39.99 list price here in the U.S.
It includes the console itself that measures out at 1.5-inches in height, 6-inches wide, and 4.5-inches deep, alongside a pair of its iconic winged-style controllers at 1-inch high, 3-inches across, and 9.5-inches in depth. You’ll also land a detachable Sonic game cartridge and some stickers – you can chose to display the build as the North American SEGA Genesis or the Mega Drive (Europe, Australia, and Japan).
There is also a sort fun little easter egg hiding beneath the console’s lid where you’ll find Sonic depicted in that flat brick-built artwork form.
This set, unlike the aforementioned 260-piece 40769 Sonic the Hedgehog SEGA Genesis Controller, will presumably see a full release as opposed to the quick run GWP treatment on the controller last fall – it was only available for about a month before being retired.
I like these mini builds but I can’t help but feel this thing should have been a full-on 1:1 Genesis set. It’s cute and I want one, but I might actually have preferred this thing release with significantly more parts instead, despite the higher price tag…Sonic deserves it.
Nonetheless, the new LEGO 40926 SEGA Genesis Console set is set for release on June 1, 2026, but there does not appear to be be any details thus far on pre-order availability.
