Valve officially reveals Steam Machine’s exorbitant price, pre-orders live this week

The Steam Machine is finally arriving and very soon at that, but if you thought there might be a chance Valve found a way to get the price down at all, think again. Pre-orders are set to go live this week and the thing is going to cost you more than $1,000 if you’re even “lucky” enough to get one.

This is clearly not entirely Valve’s fault. With the AI bros ruining the memory and storage market for the rest of us, and sourcing parts for tech becoming increasingly difficult, you would have to be crazy to release any new gaming tech these days. But it is what it is, and here we are.

Valve is likely into too deep to turn back at this point anyway – unless you’re referring to billionaire Gabe Newell heading back down the beach front tunnel in his new $70M Florida estate because he forgot his towel – and the Steam Machine gaming PC rig is now officially set to go on sale on June 25 ahead of launch the following week on June 29 at a whopping $1,049 (and that’s just the starter price for the entry-level model).

The first orders are set to begin shipping in June 29, and Valve will get the rest of them sent out when more units are ready.

  • Steam Machine 512GB: $1,049 USD /  1,509 CAD /  1,039 EUR /  879 GBP / 1,609 AUD /  4,389 PLN
    • Bundle: Steam Machine 512GB + Steam Controller: $1,128 USD / 1,628 CAD / 1,108 EUR / 938 GBP / 1,728 AUD / 4,698 PLN
  • Steam Machine 2TB: $1,349 USD / 1,919 CAD /  1,359 EUR /  1,149 GBP /  2,109 AUD /  5,739 PLN
    • Bundle: Steam Machine 2TB + Steam Controller: $1,428 USD / 2,038 CAD / 1,428 EUR / 1,208 GBP / 2,228 AUD / 6,048 PLN
    • Both the Steam Machine 2TB and 2TB bundle options come with two additional faceplates: red fabric, and solid walnut.

I guess that’s not all that wild by high-end gaming PC standards, and most folks should have been thinking roughly $200 to $500 more than expected anyway, but it’s certainly not a budget-friendly gaming machine. That’s more than double the price of the Switch 2 after its price goes up in September and $150 more than the top-end PS5 Pro, for comparison’s sake.

The base model runs on a custom six-core AMD Zen 4 CPU with (max clock speeds up to 4.4GHz) alongside an AMD RDNA3 GPU, 8GB of DDR6 VRAM, and well, yeah…that’s not bad and it should be able to handle most relatively high-end gaming experiences with some fancy upscaling tech in place.

If you’re actually going to try to get one, cross your fingers now. While it will likely deter bots and re-sellers, the pre-order process will be an entirely randomized one, according to Valve. You can sign up for a reservation right here before Thursday of this week at 1 p.m. ET – only available those who have made a Steam purchase before April, 2026. Valve will then randomize the reservations, create an ordered waitlist of sorts, and then push go and let the pre-order listing live on June 29 – you’ll get an email if Gabe’s number generator picks you.
