Following an official teaser back in the spring, the first new Donkey Kong LEGO set surfaced in leaks across the web earlier this month, and now it is official. The new LEGO Donkey Kong Arcade is now available for pre-order ahead of release on August 1.
New LEGO Donkey Kong Arcade is official, pre-orders now live
The leaks were right on point here. The new Donkey Kong Arcade takes us right back to the beginning, back to 1981, back to when Mario was just Jumpman and DK was just the (adorably) angry primate trying to keep the spry plumber from “the Lady.”
The model pays homage to the original arcade cabinet game and makes playful retro decor for your entertainment room or home office. It features Jumpman, Donkey Kong and Lady, plus iconic scaffold, ladder and hammer details.
Clocking in at 1,367 pieces, the new Donkey Kong Arcade does indeed feature moving parts and a sort of playable experience with the ability to move Jumpman “with the joystick and press the button to make him leap over the barrels.”
Pull the lever to release one of the 21 barrels at a time, move Jumpman with the joystick and press the button to make him jump over the barrels
This epic brick-built piece of gaming nostalgia is going to be a must-have in the game room for anyone with an affinity for early Nintendo and the origins of the world’s most famous plumber.
The new LEGO Donkey Kong Arcade carries a $199.99 list price and is now available for pre-order on Amazon and the official LEGO site ahead of release on August 1.
