Today, Square Enix dropped the latest title in the long-running Final Fantasy series. Now available on iOS and Android, Mobius Final Fantasy is an all-new adventure specifically designed for mobile devices from the ground up. Some long time veterans of the series have their hands all over this one including Yoshinori Kitase and Kazushige Nojima of Final Fantasy VII fame. Much of the series’ main pillars see a return in Mobius like the “Job System”, high intensity turn based battle systems and large cast of diverse characters.
Unlike the usual premium pricing Square titles tend to boast, Mobius is a free-to-play game with the expected in-game currency IAPs. Its content will be released in chapters according to Square, but there is no firm details on how the business model (pricing) will play out. Anyone who gives the game a try before August 31st will be eligible for some in-game goodies including weapons from past games and more.

FINAL FANTASY’s vaunted “Job System” returns.

Nonetheless, judging by the launch trailer footage and the screens (below), this one looks like it might be worth a try, pending some possible ugly IAP situations down the line of course.
