Leica is well-known for making high-end cameras for photographers. With crazy good sensors, amazing color science, and flawless glass in its lenses, owning a Leica is much like owning a Lamborghini; expensive and prestigious.
The Leica Q is a well-known camera when it comes to high-end photography. With a 24.2MP full-frame sensor and a fixed 28mm f/1.7 lens, you’re going to be hard-pressed to take “bad” photos when using the Leica Q. But, the Q isn’t entirely new. What’s new is the limited “Snow Edition” for the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games.
This “Snow Edition” of the Leica Q swaps the normal black front for a white cowhide. There is also an aluminum top and base plate to give you the premium feel people have come to expect from Leica cameras.
Designed alongside Swiss Olympic gold medalist and world champion half-pipe snowboarder Iouri Podladtchikov, this is bound to be a camera keepsake for years to come, should you choose to pick one up.
Though the Leica Q is an expensive camera, it’s fantastic for all kinds of shots. Thanks to the fast lens and huge sensor, low-light isn’t a problem when it comes to the Leica Q.
The lens offered on the Leica Q is fixed in both focal length and the fact that it can’t be removed. That’s both a benefit and a curse. Because it’s fixed, there are no lenses to lose and you’ll also gain great quality glass.
The ability to bump up ISO to 50,000 also means that whether there’s tons of natural light or not, you’ll be able to capture any scene.
The viewfinder on the Leica Q is also quite high-end. The 3.68MP in the viewfinder resolution is a higher quality than just about any other camera on the market.
You’ll also get the ability to shoot in 1080p at 60FPS with the Leica Q. Sorry, no 4K here.
If you’re interested in getting the “Snow Edition” Leica Q, you’ll have to wait for March to come. Pre-orders are already up at shops like B&H, with the official launch coming in March 2018 for $5,395.
