Sam’s Club announced earlier today that it will soon offer grocery delivery at over half of its stores. In its press release, the company touted that the timing of its rollout will be great for consumers this holiday season. While this is clearly a significant undertaking, the company said that it will be able to pull all of this off by the end of October. This is largely due to the fact that it has partnered with Instacart to carry out customer deliveries.
While grocery delivery has been offered by Amazon and Whole Foods for a bit, delivery to my zip code is unavailable and my hopes are not high that my city will be one of the next on either of their lists. Sam’s Club on the other hand has a lot more of a reach thanks to its large number of brick-and-mortar stores.
The company states that its rollout over the next couple of weeks will bring grocery delivery to “over 1,000 new ZIP codes, more than 100 new clubs, and 90 new markets”. In some cases these locations will be able to deliver orders in as little as 1-hour, making it a great option for folks who run on a tight schedule.
“By expanding our partnership with Sam’s Club, we’re extending the reach of Sam’s Club’s amazing products by making grocery shopping effortless for more people across more cities in the U.S.,” said Sarah Mastrorocco, Vice President of Business Development, Instacart. “We’re excited to join forces with Sam’s Club and serve as ‘household heroes’ for customers, delivering them the home essentials and groceries they want from the club they love in as fast as an hour.”
Grocery delivery is obviously the step that comes after options like Walmart’s Grocery pickup system. A new service that I began taking advantage of two weeks ago. Instead of adding items to a grocery list app like AnyList, I took an extra few seconds and searched for the item I wanted in Walmart’s Grocery app, then added it to my cart.
Once I was finished with my list I picked a location and scheduled the timeframe to pick it up. Within 60 seconds of parking my car, an employee was approaching me with the groceries that I had ordered and loaded them in the back of my vehicle.
While Walmart’s Grocery pickup is one of the best ways I have found to shop, I, and many others would definitely prefer to have groceries brought directly to our doorsteps. If you agree, head over to Sam’s Club and check if your zip code is serviced. If it isn’t now, you can sign up to be notified and you may hear from them in just a couple of weeks.
