Transcend-JetDrive-Mac-SSDThe new line of Transcend JetDrive SSD upgrade kits enable some MacBook Air and Retina MacBook Pro owners (more on that below) to increase their computer’s storage to up to 960GB and boost its overall performance in just a few steps. It is available in three different models (JetDrive 500/520/720) with sequential read/write speeds up to 495MB/s and 427MB/s.

With file transfer performance that far exceeds stock SSDs, JetDrive SSDs provide both speed and stability. Whether you’re browsing the internet, gaming, or running multiple applications simultaneously, JetDrive SSDs deliver the performance you need.

Each kit includes all the necessary tools and parts to complete the install. Check out the video below to get a better sense of what the install process entails.

These kits support MacBook Airs (11 & 13-inch) beginning with late 2010 models through mid 2012 and Retina MacBook Pros (13 & 15-inch) from late 2012 to early 2013. Unfortunately, the JetDrive isn’t compatible with the latest MacBook Airs (mid 2013) and Retina MacBook Pros (late 2013) because it lacks PCIe support. All of the aforementioned models can be upgraded to 240GB, 480GB, or 960GB except for the earlier MacBook Airs (late 2010 to mid 2011), which only support up to 480GB.

The Transcend website has a great table that gets more specific regarding MacBook compatibility so be sure to check that out if you’re unsure if the new JetDrive will fit your Mac. For help with identifying what Mac model you have head over to this support page.

JetDrive SSDs take advantage of Transcend’s home-brew JetDrive Toolbox monitoring software, which leverages “S.M.A.R.T. technology to analyze its health status…[and] can enable TRIM support for your JetDrive in OS X, maintaining optimum write speeds and maximizing the lifetime of your SSD.”

The upgrade kit also includes a slick, aluminum USB 3.0 enclosure which can be equipped with your original SSD after the install to make use of it as a speedy external storage solution.

Amazon is now listing every JetDrive with prices starting at $189.99 for the 240GB JetDrive 500. As of this posting, all of the prices are showing a 13-14% discount-off listing. Transcend backs the drive with a 5-year warranty which exceeds a stock Apple SSD warranty.

The kit includes the following:

  • MacBook-compliant SSD
  • Enclosure Case with USB 3.0 to SATA Adapter
  • Screwdrivers (T5 & P5)
  • Screws for Enclosure Case x3
  • USB Cable
  • Rubber Feet
  • Travel Pouch
  • Quick Installation Guide & Warranty Card
