The Polaroid brand is best known for its instant camera and film products but most recently, the miniature Polaroid Cube camera is getting all of the attention. Officially revealed just this week, the tiny, cubed shaped camera is designed to sit somewhere between a full on action cam and a more casual solution.

Described as the “World’s Funnest, Cutest Lifestyle Action Camera,” Polaroid Cube offers 90 continuous minutes (on a single charge) of 720p or 1080p video recording in a 1.4-inch squared package. It has a 124 degree viewing angle and produces still images at 6 MP.
The President and CEO of Polaroid, Scott W. Hardy, explains:
“…We are expanding the lifestyle action camera market for the family, or everyday user. We’re not all cliff divers or extreme athletes, many of us would like to be able to capture and share a monumental moment such as our child’s first bike ride, a walk in the park with the family dog or a family weekend beach excursion out on the water…The Polaroid Cube offers the everyday user a fun, easy to use way to capture the exciting action unfolding in their daily lives.”
Its “rugged” rubberized exterior is “weather-proof” and features a simple one button design with a hidden control panel containing a switch to choose between 720p and 1080p recording, a microSD slot (up to 32GB), and a microUSB connection for charging and syncing. It is ready to record video and audio right out of the box and can handle night recording with its built-in microphone and LED-light.
The Cube features a magnet along the bottom allowing it to be mounted on any applicable surface, as well as its own line of custom accessories. There are 8 unique attachments available specifically for the Cube including everything from tripod mounts and waterproof cases, to tripods and helmet/bicycle mounts, ranging from $17.99 to $39.99.
The Polaroid Cube’s design is attributed to industrial designer Robert Brunner and design firm Ammunition, who were previously responsible for brands such as Adobe, Beats by Dre, Square, and Williams-Sonoma
While it certainly won’t take as much of a beating as the popular GoPro line of action cams, it isn’t going to cost you near as much either.
Now available for pre-order at $99 with an October 1st shipping date, the Polaroid Cube is available in 3 colors: black, blue, and red, each with the Polaroid Color Spectrum emblazoned around the sides.
