Sony’s new BSP60 voice-controlled smart Bluetooth speaker is a virtual assistant on wheels

While there is a wealth of Bluetooth speakers out there, all attempting to add extra features and additional innovation to standout from the pack, Sony isn’t generally the first company most people run to. However, its recently revealed BSP60 Smart Bluetooth Speaker has both an interesting visual design and a number of unique tricks up its sleeve.

Head below to find out more about the BSP60 speaker’s smart features, voice-control and how to get it to follow you around the room…

Along with all of the usual smartphone integrations like conference calling and audio Bluetooth streaming via NFC, BSP60 also features voice-control and audio notifications similar to what Amazon plans to offer with its upcoming Echo personal assistant speaker. Sony’s new speaker connects with Android devices (no mention of iOS at this point) and will both display and offer audio notifications for things like weather, daily schedules and other basic data. Voice commands are also supported, allowing users to ask the speaker to take on basic tasks like set alarms and to check their phone for notifications.

It sports two ear-like pieces that protrude from the top edge of the speaker with multi-colored lights inside, as well as small wheels on the bottom that allow it to move along flat surfaces. While information is somewhat limited on the speaker at this point, we expect more to surface as its Q2 release date draws nearer.

This little mobile, talking speaker isn’t going to come cheap either. Sony has slapped a suggested retail price of around $355 on it. Sony is currently accepting registrations, but the speaker is not available for preorder. If you’re not interested in all the extra frills and just want a good, solid Bluetooth speaker, our Best of the Year roundup is a great place to start.
