These days it seems that we are trying to make everything smart. Even products that have been around for a long time. Something as simple as a bicycle, which has been around for years, suddenly has all sorts of possibilities once a smartphone is connected to it.
A group of inventors is not attempting to reinvent the wheel, but rather the pedal. They are simply trying to prevent bike theft and make your two wheeled vehicle just a little bit smarter.

Connected Cycle first teased its Smart bike pedals back at CES in Las Vegas earlier this year, and now they are ready to kick off an Indiegogo campaign. It is a pretty clever design, these pedals will attach to your bike and provide its own power via kinetic energy as well as a cellular connection enabling GPS tracking and route recording. It does not pull any power from your device via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi.
Of course, it is iPhone and Android connected which enables users to keep all of the recorded data in one place as well as provide location information if a bike were to be stolen. Connected Cycle has had a massive amount of success during its first few days on Indiegogo, already raising 191% of its original goal. While all of the early bird options are sold out, the “classic pack” is still available for $149 with delivery in December.
