Android TV hasn’t seen much popularity since its release a few years back, but the platform is slowly gaining ground yet again. Recently, it showed up in LeEco’s collection of affordable 4K TVs, and just last month, Nvidia unveiled its powerhouse Nvidia Shield TV, also powered by Android TV. Now one of the platforms earliest supporters, Sony, is back with a new collection of 4K HDR TVs, all with Android TV under the hood.
Sony’s new XBR-X800E, XBR-X850E, XBR-X900E and XBR-X930E/XBR-X940E TVs range from 43-inches all the way up to 75-inches, all with 4K HDR capabilities. Sony also has its “4K HDR Processor X1 Extreme” powering the show, for enhanced image processing and greater image and color detail.
The big selling points on these TVs, though, is Android TV with Google Assistant. Like other TVs powered by Android TV, you’ll have access to a curated Google Play store on these TVs, as well as support for Chromecast enabled applications. Further, these TVs work with Google Home casting, for pushing content from YouTube and Spotify to your TV.
Things will get even better in a few months when Sony and Google push Google Assistant to these TVs, which on these models, will require a push of the button to be activated unlike Nvidia’s Shield, which is always-listening.
Pricing on these TVs starts at $999 for the 43-inch model, and goes up to $7,500 for the top-of-the-line 75-inch option. Personally, I’d say the 49-inch model at $1,099 is probably the best deal from the lot. All 12 models are available for pre-sale starting today at Best Buy and will be available by March.
