Master & Dynamic’s MA770 speaker is housed in hand-finished concrete

Wireless speakers have been a hot item this year. It seems as though every company is unveiling a sound system or portable speaker with its own flair and functionality. Regardless of if you’re looking for something with a refreshing design, or rich and robust sound, there is most likely a speaker built to fit your needs. However in terms of the high-end market, there isn’t as much flexibility in style, which is where Master & Dynamic’s latest speaker shines.

Built as a collaboration between the renowned audio company and architect David Adjaye, the MA770 wireless speaker is currently available for preorder for $1,800. Outfitted with a hand-finished concrete casing, the speaker also features hints of woven Kevlar, anodized aluminum controls and a magnetically attached steel grille.

Rather than conforming to the standard rectangle or cylinder-based design seen in other speakers, Master & Dynamic opts for something much less conventional. The MA770’s casing is comprised of an interesting geometrically inspired form that heavily draws influence from architectural design. Regardless of if you fancy the asecthics of the MA770, the speaker’s shape is said to provide exceptional acoustic benefits such as increased dampening, reduced resonance, and a purer sound.

While the speaker incorporates high-end design choices to help justify the steep price, its offerings in terms of functionality are fairly standard. It features many of the traditional inputs you’d find from competing speakers like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth as well as auxiliary and optical ports. More notably is the Chromecast integration, which allows a variety of services like Spotify, Tidal and Soundcloud to be streamed directly to the device. The MA770 can also be configured as a single unit, a stereo pair or even to act as a multi-room audio setup.

Regarding the technical specs on the sound system itself, the MA770 sports dual 4-inch throw woofers as well as a 1.5-inch titanium tweeter. This is complemented by 100 watts of ‘Class D’ amplification, which ‘easily fills a large room with sonically sophisticated sound’.

The MA770 is currently available for preorder from Master & Dynamic’s website for $1,800 and is said to be shipping by May 16th of this year.

Our MA770 Wireless Speaker redefines the sound experience for creative minds. Designed with Sir David Adjaye, the WiFi or Bluetooth-connected speaker is made of an acoustically superior proprietary concrete composite. Audio componentry incorporates efficient dual 4″ woven Kevlar long throw woofers and a 1.5″ titanium tweeter which are tuned to provide a rich, detailed and expansive sound that perfectly fills the home, office or studio. A magnetically attached stainless steel grille is removable for those that prefer the look of the exposed components and hand-finished concrete.
