Despite our best efforts, managing to keep our workspaces clean isn’t as easy of a feat as one may contend. A quick search on Amazon lists tons of cable organizers, containers or other ways to cut the clutter. But the fact that new products continue to come out means that the war against desk messes isn’t over. Brought to us from Kickstarter, Gather seeks to organize our desks with a stylish and customizable solution.

Many of us are tied to our desks for day to day work, so tackling a cluttered workspace is most likely a familiar site. However, attempting to find a solution that is both elegant and customizable may be just as difficult as staying organized. Gather, on the other hand, seeks to accomplish both these feats with its modular system.

At its core, Gather is based around a 13 x 4-inch wooden block with four horizontal grooves cut into it. This is accompanied by a series of injection molded ABS plastic organizer pieces. Theses various elements include a phone holder, post-it holder, small tray, large tray, pen holder, coaster and headphone stand.

The combination of these two elements allows for Gather to be configured in hundreds of different ways. Thanks to the grid-like system, the different pieces can be positioned or rotated to fit anywhere on the base. The combination of different organization pieces helps cut the clutter of typical small desk items, and “acts as a central home base for your most used items, keeping everything neatly in place.”

Multiple Gather kits can even be combined together thanks to embedded magnets. This allows for a greater degree of customization, but also a wider array of organization options. Not only is Gather customizable in the number of configurations, but also in the places in which it can be utilized. While Gather is in fact geared for one’s desk, it is also suitable to assist in the kitchen or help cut the clutter on a nightstand.

Available in both Walnut and Maple baseplates, Gather is now available for backing on Kickstarter. Starting at the early bird price of $99, you’ll get the standard kit in your choice of wood material. The campaign just launched, and still has 59 days until it’s finished. Despite being available for preorder for only a day, Gather has raised $42,617, more than doubling the campaign’s initial goal.

Clutter. You don’t want to think about it, but it always creeps in over time, making it impossible to find things when you actually need them. As a designer, I spend most of the day working at my desk and reach for the same things over and over.  I try to stay organized, but by the end of the day my desk is a complete, cluttered mess because there’s no central place to put everything. I searched for a product to solve this problem, but all I found were ugly, cheaply-made organizers. What I wanted was a beautifully-designed, minimal organizer. Something to gather all of my essentials into one central place. So I designed Gather.
