Capcom re-releases Street Fighter II with Collector’s Edition SNES Cartridge

Retro gaming has been on the rise, with last year’s hit NES Classic and now the recently announced SNES remake looking to be one of the hottest gadgets this holiday season. Hoping to take advantage of all the commotion, Capcom has recreated Street Fighter II for the Super NES in a limited production run; complete with vintage iconography and classic SNES cartridge.

Marking the classic fighting game series’ 30th anniversary, the folks over at Capcom and iam8bit have joined forces to create a limited run re-release of Street Fighter II for the SNES. Having only made 5,500 cartridges, the game retails for $100 and is sure to be a must-have item for fans and collectors alike.

Donning either a red or green plastic casing, the fighting game is packed within a playable SNES cartridge. Of the 5,500 units produced, 4,500 sport an 0paque Ryu Headband Red colorway, while the remaining games rock a more coveted translucent glow-in-the-dark Blanka Green coloration. The actual edition of the Street Fighter II release you receive is completely random, meaning you’ll have to have some luck to score the Blanka Green version.

Alongside the Street Fighter II cartridge itself, you’ll find other retro inclusions like the classic tri-fold box design complete with foil and embossments as well as a premium instruction booklet. Filled with eye-catching box and cartridge art, designers have managed to capture that classic early 90’s aesthetic.

Whether you’re looking to pickup a collector’s piece to go alongside your new SNES Classic or just want to revisit some childhood memories, the re-release of Street Fighter II is sure to be a hit. Retailing for $100, the game is slated to begin shipping in late November, just in time for the holidays. Unfortunately, as we’ve found in the past with other limited edition retro gaming products, the cartridge remakes have already sold out. Meaning you’ll have to wait for them to popup on online in order to score one for your collection.
