Amongst the rollable prototype OLED displays, smart home hubs and live translation headphones of CES, there are always a few amazing little robot helpers. From adorable home companions to futuristic commercial fleets, you can always count on new AI bots to appear in Vegas come January.

While the model being shown off at CES is indeed still a prototype, reports suggest the impressive, albeit sort of large and cumbersome-looking, robot will be shipping later this year.
While its list of abilities and those shown off in Vegas are quite amazing, it is not clear how much of this will be part of 2018’s release. And while this isn’t one of those million dollar research products, the company said it will cost less than an overseas vacation for a family of four. Outside of that, the only details we can muster up on price is that it will be less than $20,000, so your estimate is as good as ours.
Aeolus Robotics says the bot can learn your home and even where objects are “supposed to be”. So on top of broom/vacuum attachments, Aeolus apparently has the ability to essentially roam around and tidy up after you, putting things back where they belong. Its AI can track thousands of items around your home in order to keep things in place.
With that kind of intelligence it’s easy to imagine plenty of other features that could be implemented here. Item tracking and particular fetch quests on pre-designated objects come to mind. Aeolus also has face tracking and recognition which are a part of its home security features among other things.
Certainly interesting stuff, but it’s hard to believe this kind of thing could ship this year in a state that people will actually want. It’s a very large robot and isn’t necessarily as sleek and agile as others we have seen. Most of what was shown at CES haven’t been what you would consider real-world demonstrations, so there’s a lot to be proven here still. Having said that, we are certainly getting much closer to that beer-fetching, house-cleaning robot of our dreams.
