Ikea launches Bluetooth speakers, because they already make everything else

Ikea is known for “some assembly required” affordable furniture, but now, the housing megastore is selling Bluetooth speakers. Ikea literally made just about everything besides speakers before. I mean, you can walk into the store and buy everything, even the kitchen sink.

I have several Ikea items in my office/studio, from the company’s Alex drawer units to Linnmon desks, I love Ikea’s affordable home solutions. The Eneby Bluetooth speaker comes in two sizes and two colors, 8×8-inches or 12×12-inches, and either white or black fabric. But, what makes these speakers something to get? Let’s take a closer look.

Ikea products generally require some (or a lot) of assembly. This is part of how the company sells things at such low prices compared to its competitors.

These speakers have two price points, $49 for the 8×8, and $89 for the 12×12. This could be considered a little on the high side since you can get some Bluetooth speakers for well under $50 on Amazon.

Ikea doesn’t really want to compete with other Bluetooth speakers, it seems. These speakers are powered by plugging them into the wall, though you can buy an optional battery for an additional $20. The smaller speaker comes with a handle, so these little guys are obviously designed to be portable.

For those of us who don’t want to carry the speaker around, however, Ikea also sells a desk stand for $10 so you can set them on a countertop if that’s more your style.

In normal Ikea fashion, there is a little assembly required here, though it seems only the smaller speaker needs it. It’s fairly simple, there are two screws on the side of the smaller speaker that come out with the included Allen wrench. This is so you can attach the handle, should you choose. I do think it’s nice that Ikea makes this handle an option, as not everyone will want it.

The smaller 8×8 speaker features what look to be one smaller woofer and one tweeter near the top, with a volume control knob. The larger of the two speakers adds another woofer, which should help deepen the sound that comes out of these.

Connectivity wise, you can’t go wrong. With Bluetooth that supports up to 8 devices in its internal memory and a 3.5mm headphone jack, regardless of whether you want to go wired or wireless, these speakers have you covered.

The removable dust guard over the speaker cones also means that whether you want these speakers to make a statement or blend in, the choice really is yours.

Ikea’s Eneby Bluetooth speakers are already available in many stores across the nation, though online availability is yet to be announced. I plan to swing by my local Ikea later this week and pick a few of these up to test them out, what about you? Let us know in the comments below!
