Nintendo partners w/ Random House to produce children’s books based on its iconic games

Nintendo officially announced on Friday that Random House Children’s Books and Penguin Random House U.K. have partnered with the game company to publish coloring and activity books for children. The books will feature themes and characters from iconic games such as Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Splatoon, and Animal Crossing.

Although the partnership was officially announced just recently, it appears the companies have been working together for quite some time. This can be observed by taking notice of books that were published back in January. Random House has one Super Mario-based title and one based on The Legend of Zelda.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Nintendo to bring the whimsy and adventure of these worlds to the imaginations of our young readers,” said Dennis Shealy, Editorial Director, Random House Books for Young Readers Licensed Publishing. “These activity books will let both new and established fans experience Nintendo characters in a whole new way.”

If you are in the market for sticker books right now, look no further than the Super Mario Official Sticker Book or The Legend of Zelda Official Sticker Book. If coloring is a better fit, you will need to hang tight for the one of the two titles that Nintendo announced. Mario Time! is based on the Super Mario franchise, while Link’s Book of Adventure is based on The Legend of Zelda.

It is clear that the content produced through the partnership so far has been well received. On Amazon each of the sticker books released in January have almost perfect 4.8 and 4.9 out of 5 star reviews. Reviewers boast of the high-level of quality and large number of stickers included in the books. If the same level of quality is maintained in the upcoming releases, they are sure to garner lots of success.

The upcoming books are to be released starting in July. Leading the charge are Mario Time! and Link’s Book of Adventure on July 3rd (both will be priced at $9.99), shortly followed by the Splatoon Official Sticker Book on July 24th (will be priced at $12.99). Although Animal Crossing was mentioned in the release, no official information was released

The official announcement from Nintendo after an official release in January signals that they have seen enough success to continue development of new titles. It is unclear if the companies plan include additional franchises in the future. We all know that Nintendo has plenty of options.

One thing is for certain, these books are great gifts for the Nintendo fans that you know. Be sure to keep them in mind for upcoming birthdays.
