Wisenet launches SmartCam N1 and N2 with reduced motion alerts via facial recognition

If you have any smart cameras in your home, you are probably aware of how wonderful and also how annoying motion alerts can be. While there are quite a few cases that you find yourself wanting alerts, the majority of the time a constant stream of notifications can be more distracting than the feature is worth. With the launch of SmartCam N1 and N2, Wisenet has set out to reduce the amount of notifications delivered to your smartphone by letting users limit notifications to only faces that they have not identified.

If you have not heard of Wisenet products before, this is not surprising since its products were branded as Samsung Security until the Hanwha Group acquired Techwin America in December 2014. Since this acquisition, the Hanwha Group has rebranded its products as Wisenet and is showing its commitment to the smart home space with the release of its two new cameras.

Both the SmartCam N1 and N2 offer a range of features which include 1080p recording, facial recognition, motion alerts, two-way communication, and more. Compatibility with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa allows customers to get a recap on daily activity using either of the popular voice assistants.

To reduce the number of unwanted notifications, both cameras offer a filter for human-detection only. As the name implies, when this feature is enabled users will not receive notification for pets or other moving things, but instead will only receive alerts when people are detected.

With the SmartCam’s Face Recognition feature, users can be even more restrictive about which notifications can make it through to them. By identifying faces in the Wisenet SmartCam+ app, users are able to only receive alerts when an unidentified face is detected.

Another option is to only receive alerts when an “Interested Face” is seen. An example could be a child, friend or other family member that you wish to be alerted about via this user-defined feature.

A standout on the N2 versus the N1 is its “Abnormal Sound Detection” feature. With this option enabled, you will be notified about noises like breaking glass or a baby crying, providing another way to catch important events.

While the SmartCam N1 and N2 have a lot of similarities, pricing and availability differ. The SmartCam N1 will be available exclusively at Sam’s Club at a price of $149.99, while the SmartCam N2 will be $50 more, coming in at $199.99. The SmartCam N2 is available now through Crutchfield, with faster ship times coming to Amazon and a product listing at Home Depot in the near future.
