Earlier this year, GE debuted its first capacitive touch Z-Wave Plus smart dimmer switch to a pretty warm welcome. Now Aeotec, another leading smart home accessory maker has released its latest Z-Wave Plus device. With a multi-touch glass panel, the ability to control a wide range of accessories and more, the new WallSwipe Dimmer may be the most feature-packed Z-Wave switch on the market.
Aeotec’s latest release joins the company’s expansive lineup of Z-Wave smart home devices. Most notably, it’s based around a touch-sensitive glass panel. This gives WallSwipe support for multi-touch gestures, which grants a variety of notable features. Users will be able to do everything from swipe up or down to brighten or dim the lights, all the way to waving to cycle through pre-set scenes and more.
The new smart dimmer replaces just about any existing light switch in your home. It’s compatible with both two and three-wire electrical systems, which is also a significant inclusion considering many other models require the latter. WallSwipe works with any Z-Wave enabled system like SmartThings and Fibaro, as well as Aeotec’s own Z-Stick.
Backed by the recently unveiled Aeotec Nano Dimmer, WallSwipe stands out not just for how it’s controlled, but for what it can control. This switch can be configured to control everything from your ceiling fans, blinds, lights, and set scenes. This makes the smart dimmer much more versatile than the average run-of-the-mill Z-Wave light switch.
The WallSwipe Dimmer Switch is now available for purchase at Amazon for $69.99. Those interested in picking up Aeotec’s new device will end up paying a notable premium compared to the typical Z-Wave smart in-wall switch. Though a higher cost is to be expected for high-end features and multi-touch control. Also included in that price tag is the Aeotec Nano Dimmer which typically sells for $60 by itself.
Aeotec’s latest is certainly one of the more intriguing Z-Wave releases. And in my opinion, it looks to be one of the best values for your money. The fact that it can control more than just lights makes it a notable and feature-rich option. The company’s other smart home devices are some of best Z-Wave products on the market, and now its newest may just be the leader for in-wall dimmer switches.
