Sony promised PC support for PlayStation VR2, and it looks to have made an adapter for just that

Okay, thanks for knocking $100 off for a limited time Sony, but where’s the PS VR2 PC support you promised? One thing, just about everyone, feels is holding the PS VR2 platform back is its required connection to a PS5. This arguably makes for a more stable experience for all users, but it needs to get PC support and, if you ask me, it needs it soon. It has been out in the wild for well over a year now, the game library still feels a bit stunted (although it is showing off new titles tomorrow), and, at least in some ways, sales are too because of it. Sony has indeed said it would take its latest virtual reality gaming platform off the leash at some point this year, and some new evidence has surfaced that it is indeed what is still happening. PlayStation VR2 PC support inbound?

While most folks are fairly confident Sony’s official PC solution is on the way, there are no direct or official details on what form it might take. But a recent report suggests some kind of adapter is in the works to finally untether PS VR2 from the shackles of PS5 and free it up to the far more interesting and wide-ranging PC VR eco-system. 

An online personality by the name of Brad Lynch has unearthed what appears to be some kind of certification with a Korean regulator detailing (to some degree anyway) an adapter of sorts that will allow PS VR2 to link up with your PC battlestation in what is hopefully the near future. 

This verification was filled a couple months ago in late March, suggesting Sony might indeed still be targeting a 2024 exile from the proprietary PS5 hook-up. 

There are no other details on what this adapter actually is, including both price and how it really works. Some have suggested Sony is looking towards an HDMI connection, but it seems more likely the USB-C standard it already uses now would be a more likely candidate to me – it’s hard to say for sure. 

Nonetheless, if this is indeed the real thing and Sony does keep its promises, it could mean big things for what many feel is among the better VR hardware out there.
