Hands-on with the new UGREEN Uno Qi2 2-in-1 Charging Station
This new charging station belongs to the Uno family of devices from UGREEN that sport an onboard display to showcase adorable faces to complete the “Groovy Robot Design.” It debuted alongside other devices in the brand’s Uno series carrying a $70 price tag. That being said, you can head to the official UGREEN Amazon storefront right now to find it going for $48.99 shipped at the time of writing this. 9to5Toys’ Take
Let’s get straight to the highlight of this charger, which is the screen that displays “Smart Status Emojis.” It’s essentially just a panel to indicate the charging status with cute expressions. Unlike the Uno USB-C hub that can switch between a few different expressions, this charging station only has two — one that tells you whether it’s on Standby and the other when it is charging/done charging. It’s just a fun and interactive way to know if your device is actually charging or if you, say, forgot to switch on the charger or haven’t aligned your earbuds case properly on the pad.
I’ve noticed the expressions quickly change if/when you place a phone or an earbuds charging case on the charging pad, meaning there’s no delay in status indication. The charging pad on the top uses some strong magnets to secure your phone in place, and you can even adjust its viewing angle up to 70 degrees for a better hands-free experience. The hinge holding this adjustable charging pad is also nice and sturdy, and the pad leaves enough space behind it for a decently-sized earbuds case when it’s all the way up. I had absolutely no issues placing my Sony WF-1000XM4 case behind it for charging.
The Uno Qi2 2-in-1 charging station also has an additional USB-C port that you can use to connect an Apple Watch charger or even just a USB cable to power earbud cases that don’t support wireless charging. As far as the charging speeds are concerned, the main charging pad at the top supports rapid 15W charging for your smartphone, whereas the one behind it is good for gentle 5W speeds to top up an earbuds case. The additional USB-C port at the bottom can also deliver up to 5W speeds, which is just enough for the Apple Watch.
It is worth noting that there is no AC adapter in the box, but you get a 3.3-foot USB-C to USB-C charging cable. Note that this is just an ordinary USB-C cable and not the $9 Uno USB-C cable you see me using in some of these photos here.
All things considered, I’m very impressed with UGREEN’s attempt at making something different here from the rest of the Qi2 chargers out there. It’s a very well-built device and the magnets, as I previously mentioned, are also some of the strongest I have ever used on a charger. The unit also has a bit of weight to it overall, which not only adds to the overall premium feel but also makes it easy to detach the phone with just one hand.
I would highly recommend this charging station for anyone who is looking for a one-stop charging solution to top-up their iPhone, AirPods, and even an Apple Watch. Just add one of these to your desk or the bedside table and charge your phone and its accessories together.
