NVIDIA kicked off its CES 2025 keynote last night and wasted absolutely no time unveiling its next-gen RTX 50-series graphics cards. These new RTX Blackwell GPUs are now official, and the prices start at $545. We have four new NVIDIA graphics cards on the way — RTX 5070, RTX 5070 Ti, RTX 5080, and the most powerful RTX 5090. These new RTX 50-series GPUs will start hitting the shelves later this month, with many laptops and desktops already listed at Best Buy with these new GPUs. Hit the jump for more details.
NIVIDA’s next-gen 50-series graphics cards are now official
NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang took the stage last night to kick off the brand’s highly-anticipated keynote and give us our first official look at the new GPUs. Leading the charge is the flagship RTX 5090, commanding a premium $1,999 price tag. Joining the lineup are the RTX 5080 at $999, the RTX 5070 Ti at $749, and the most budget-friendly RTX 5070 at $545. The top-tier RTX 5090 and the RTX 5080 are both hitting the scene later this month starting January 30th, while the RTX 5070 Ti and the RTX 5070 are slated for a February release.
The RTX 50-series Founders Edition graphics cards revealed yesterday sport a revised design featuring dual fans, a 3D vapor chamber for improved heat dissipation, and GDDR7 memory. All models adhere to the PCIe Gen 5 standard and are equipped with DisplayPort 2.1b connectors, enabling support for 8K displays at refresh rates up to 165Hz.
The highlight here is the new RTX 5090, which is surprisingly a two-slot graphics card. This makes it compatible with small form-factor (SFF) PCs, something which was completely unexpected given the sheer size of the RTX 4090 cards we have on the market right now. Despite a relatively small form factor, though, the new RTX 5090 GPU packs a 32GB of GDDR7 memory, boasts a memory bandwidth of 1,792GB/s, and a staggering 21,760 CUDA cores. All this, in case you’re wondering, adds up to a massive amount of power, making the new 5090 up to two times faster than its predecessor.
The brand’s new DLSS 4 technology and the upgraded Blackwell architecture will certainly play a role here in making these new graphics cards shine, but the RTX 5090 will still consume a lot of power. The brand says it will have a total graphics power (TGP) of 575 watts and recommends a 1000W PSU. It remains to be seen just how power-efficient the graphics card really is and how often it ends up chugging that much power.
The RTX 5080 is also designed to be twice as fast as the existing RTX 4080, and it’ll come with 16GB of GDDR7 memory, a 960GB/sec memory bandwidth, and 10,752 CUDA cores. The RTX 5080 will have a TGP of 360 watts and is recommended to be paired with an 850W PSU. As for the RTX 5070 Ti and the RTX 5070, you are looking at 16GB and 12GB of GDDR7 memory, respectively. The RTX 5070 Ti will have a memory bandwidth of 896GB/s and 8,960 CUDA cores, whereas the RTX 5070 comes with a bandwidth of 672GB/s and 6,144 CUDA cores. NVIDIA is once again promising the new RTX 5070 Ti and the RTX 5070 to be twice as fast as the outgoing RTX 4070 Ti and the RTX 4070 models.
It’ll be interesting to see how these new GPUs will perform and how well they run the current crop of modern AAA titles, but we’re looking at some solid prices, especially for the RTX 5080, RTX 5070 Ti, and the RTX 5070. These GPUs will also make their way into newer gaming laptops later this year, so keep your eyes peeled for new notebooks for on-the-go gaming.
