Hollow Knight Silksong gets an official release date! Coming to Switch 2, PC, more this September

Well, it finally happened. After seven long years of waiting and getting drip fed tiny bits of info, imagery, and a demo years ago now, Team Cherry hosted a special announcement on YouTube this morning that finally gave us what we have (all) been waiting for – the Hollow Knight Silksong release date!

Hollow Knight Silksong gets an official release date!

The game has been stuck in development for the better part of a decade since way back in 2025 when the team decided it would transform what was initially going to be add-on content for the original game into a full-fledged sequel. And now, finally, we will actually get our hands on it.

Scheduled to land on all major platforms, including Nintendo Switch 2, Hollow Knight Silksong is now set for an official release…..wait for it…wait for it just a little longer…it’s already been 7 years hasn’t it?

Hollow Knight Silksong officially releases on September 4, 2025 “on all platforms and day one on Xbox Game Pass.”

The game will be available for purchase on Steam, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox, Sony PlayStation 4, Sony PlayStation 5, GoG and Humble Bundle.

Frankly, after becoming the most wishlisted game on Steam, and waiting this long, it’s hard to imagine Hollow Knight Silksong won’t take over the charts on just about every platform it releases on. Donkey Kong Bananza took the throne from Mario Kart World on Switch 2 in many ways, and a game not even made by Nintendo might be the best one on the platform before the year is out, and an indie one at that.

For those unfamiliar, in Silksong players take on the role of Hornet – an NPC and main character from the original game. The 2D platforming, metroidvania-like experience summons the former Princess of Hallownest to the Kingdom of Pharloom and the adventure ensues. The game is a much bigger one this time around, with over 150 new enemy types and some of the biggest areas the team has ever created. But you’ll find out for yourself very soon.
