Team Cherry announces Hollow Knight Switch 2 Edition, teases FREE Silksong expansion

One of the biggest stories in gaming of the year, despite the launch of Switch 2, Mario Kart World, and Donkey Bonanza, was Hollow Knight: Silksong. The long-awaited title finally made landfall to rave reviews, and now developer Team Cherry has taken to its official news feed to debut the new teaser trailer for the Hollow Knight: Silksong – Sea of Sorrow expansion and to officially announce the imminent release of an updated version of Hollow Knight for the Nintendo Switch 2.

Firstly, Team Cherry wanted to thank players for patiently waiting on Silksong:

But firstly, and most importantly, we wanted to say a huge thank you to all the players who’ve braved Silksong’s distant and dangerous lands. That’s over seven million of you who’ve purchased the game, alongside millions more playing on Xbox Game Pass!

It’s a truly staggering number of players, more than we could have ever expected (enough to crash all of the storefronts!). Watching the community grow, seeing the amazing art, the mods, the unexpected strategies, and the support between players through the game’s challenges has been hugely rewarding for us here at home. Your continued enthusiasm remains a massive motivator as we work towards expanding the game even further.

But now let’s get to the goods…the Hollow Knight: Silksong – Sea of Sorrow expansion. Alongside the debut teaser trailer below, Team Cherry says the expansion will bring new areas, bosses, tools, and more to Sliksong while taking players “across and beneath the salt-stricken seas.”

The “nautically themed expansion” is coming FREE to all players next year:

You’ll have to wait for more details on that one, but we are also getting an official announcement of the Hollow Knight Nintendo Switch 2 Edition – all “players who own a copy of Hollow Knight on Nintendo Switch will be able to download the new Nintendo Switch 2 Edition for free when it launches in 2026.”

The devs says the Switch 2 Edition will include “all the updates and enhancements that Silksong received on the platform: High frame-rate modes, higher resolutions, and many additional graphical effects.”
