FREE Switch 2 update for Donkey Kong Country Returns HD: Dixie Kong now playable, faster load times, more

Donkey Kong has been back in the spotlight with a triumphant showing in the new 3D Bananza game, but last year Nintendo unleashed Donkey Kong Country Returns HD and it has now launched a FREE update for Switch and Switch 2.

Donkey Kong Country Returns HD was and is, by and large, a wonderful re-release of what was already a fantastic 2D side-scrolling Kong adventure. Updated visuals and quality of enhancements around just about every corner, it has also getting injecting with some new free content courtesy of Nintendo and it won’t cost you a dime if you already own the game. 

As you can see in the announcement overview trailer below, Nintendo has unleashed a new free software update for DK country Returns HD that is now available on Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch. 

The main new feature is Dixie Kong – she is now a playable character in both single-player and two-player local co-op, as well as when you’re racing through “high-speed versions of each level in Turbo Attack.” 

On top of that, gamers with Nintendo Switch 2 will see “enhanced resolution, higher-definition graphics, and quicker load times,” as well as GameShare support – “if one player has the game, they can share it locally with someone who doesn’t have it.”
