What is the next-gen Xbox going to be called? Will there even be a next-gen Xbox? Well, it looks like newly appointed Microsoft Gaming CEO Asha Sharma has now not only confirmed there will indeed be a next-generation Xbox console (I think we all assumed there would be), but also some additional details as well.
Sharma took to her X account this morning and confirmed the codename for Xbox’s next machine is Project Helix, and that it will be indeed play Xbox and PC games (another long since rumored feature we all mostly assumed was true):
Sharma started out saying “great start to the morning with Team Xbox, where we talked about our commitment to the return of Xbox including Project Helix, the code name for our next generation console.”
She then went on to say that Project Helix will not only “lead in performance” but also play our “Xbox and PC games. Looking forward to chatting about this more with partners and studios at my first GDC next week!
That’s about all for now, but at least we know it is coming (whenever that will be) and that will indeed be a more inclusive machine that runs both Xbox and PC titles. While many Xbox games do, in some way shape or form, land with support for PC at some point or other, the opposite is not always the true for some of the smaller and more unique PC-only titles.
