Will Sony reveal a new, proper God of War game this year? It sure sounds like it will and some new leaks and rumors have surfaced suggesting the setting more details.
Back in February Sony confirmed that Sony Santa Monica is hard at work on a new God of War Remake Trilogy, just before revealing (and releasing) the side-scroller God of War Sparta spin-off title, but it sounds like Santa Monica has more God of War in the holster.
Last month, prominent video game leaker extraordinaire NateTheHate leaked some details on the game. They said the game stars Kratos’ deceased wife Faye, and outlets like IGN believe this to be the case as well.
The leaker also claimed the new game would be revealed this year and launch in 2027. Other outlets, like Insider Gaming have heard the next mainline God of War title, which most presume to be the one in question, will be announced this month.

Fast-forward to today, and the folks at MP1 claim it has the inside scoop on some additional details regarding the as of yet announced new God of War game. It says the game’s story and setting is based on various “East-Asian mythologies” in some way, shape or form, including elements of “Chinese and Japanese” lore. Adding that it expects “those to be present in the final version of the title.” The outlet also mentioned in passing that the new prequel title could also deal with elements of Mayan mythologies as well.
We, as per usual, cannot confirm or deny any of this, but this sounds like we are talking about a proper AAA God of War, if not some kind of spin-off, and likely the next one to be released.
