Last month Sony officially revealed the next installation in the God of War franchise and it has now officially announced the release date as well as some details on Kratos’ next appearance.
In the upcoming God of War Laufey players take on the role of Faye in an entirely new experience set during the events of God of War Ragnarok. While it has thus far seen a somewhat mixed response from the God of War community at large, this is indeed a full-on AAA experience by the looks of it, albeit what appears a sort of spin-off experience from the main Kratos-led main line titles.
To official reveal the game, Sony delivered a lengthy 20-minutes of uninterrupted gameplay during its big summer showcase last month and, at its San Diego Comic-Con panel, has now revealed the February 16, 2027 release date.
For those wondering, or who haven’t heard yet, developer Sony Santa Monica has already confirmed the game will ship on a disc – Sony has announced it will stop the production of PlayStation titles on disc come 2028.
As for Kratos, we know he makes an appearance in God of War Laufey, but it is unclear if his brief guest spot at the beginning if the experience is all we will see of him until the next God of War game – Santa Monica Studio head of creative Cory Barlog has officially announced the next Kratos game will come next after Laufey and connects directly with the events of the 2027 game.
