Almost all physical games already unavailable on official PlayStation Store, scoop them up on sale while you still can

PlayStation has officially announced that it will stop producing physical games discs, and some folks are not happy about it. And while this move isn’t expected to happen for over a year from now, almost all physical games on the official PlayStation Store are already out of stock

I’m not personally all that bothered about it, but I certainly don’t like the idea that Sony could very well pull the plug on digital titles too, be it intentionally or due to network issues, never mind music licensing issues and the disc collector community, among a myriad of other issues.

It appears as though sales of physical discs have dropped dramatically over the last year or so, and understandably so, but it is not so clear why behemoths like Sony can’t just lower sales projections and continue to rake in the cash from the folks that do still want them. Sure, there is a wholesale profit margin thing to consider here, but that can’t possibly be enough of an issue to ignore an entire community of dedicated gamers asking you take their money…can it?

It is unclear whether or not the large collection of titles on PlayStation Direct are unavailable as a by product of the all-digital announcement or not, as it is not expected to happen until 2028, but it is happening nonetheless.

There are a few titles still available on the official PS.Direct shop, but not many. Save for some collector’s editions Sony is clearly trying to get rid of at $100 off clearance pricing, and pre-orders on the upcoming Marvel’s Wolverine, you already can’t buy a physical disc from Sony as of the time of writing.

  • Ghost of Yotei – Collector’s Edition $100 off
  • DEATH STRANDING 2: ON THE BEACH – Collector’s Edition $100 off

Again, there might very well be another reason entirely here, but it might also very much highlight just how notable this week’s physical PlayStation game deals are for collectors and folks looking to preserve what will soon a bygone era of PlayStation gaming.
