Insta360 is expanding its Luna lineup today with a new model called the Luna Pro, and it sits just below the Luna Ultra we covered earlier this year. It carries over the same general pocket-gimbal design, including a 1-inch 8K sensor, Leica co-engineered optics, and a detachable 2-inch OLED touchscreen, but trims things down into a slightly more accessible package for everyday vlogging and short-form content.
The Luna Pro is available starting today for $599.99 shipped, which is more affordable than the Luna Ultra we checked out earlier. Head below for a closer look and more details.
Insta360 Luna Pro pairs Leica optics with a 1-inch 8K sensor
The new Luna Pro sports a 1-inch 8K sensor paired with a Leica Summicron lens, giving it a more premium setup than what you’d normally expect from a compact gimbal camera. Insta360 is also using a dual AI chip architecture, combining a dedicated imaging processor with a 4nm flagship chip to handle both image processing and the various smart shooting features built into the camera.
On the video side, the Luna Pro can record 8K Dolby Vision, along with 4K at 120fps and 1080p at 240fps for slow-motion capture. There’s also native 4K30 vertical video with 6K oversampling, which is clearly aimed at folks shooting Reels, Shorts, TikToks, and other vertical content. You can simply rotate the detachable display to switch orientation and start shooting vertically without having to crop everything later.
The camera also supports up to 2x lossless zoom and 4x HighRes Zoom, with AI enhancement helping keep things sharp as you punch in. For stabilization, there’s the expected 3-axis gimbal, along with features like Deep Track and Rapid Focus are there to keep moving subjects locked in when you’re filming solo.
One of the more interesting features carried over from the Luna Ultra is the 2-inch OLED touchscreen, which can be detached from the camera body. That gives you a much easier way to frame yourself from different angles or monitor a shot when the camera is mounted somewhere awkward. Insta360 has also added quick controls like slide-to-start recording and twist-to-shoot, which should make it easier to go from carrying the camera to actually recording.
The Luna Pro also packs 47GB of built-in storage and is rated for up to four hours of battery life. You can also use the brand’s Mic lineup to easily add wireless audio without building out a more complicated setup. It also has NFC for quickly connecting a compatible phone to the Insta360 app, and there’s also an optional POV Head Tracker for more immersive first-person shooting.
Lastly, it’s worth pointing out that Leica’s involvement here for this camera goes beyond the lens, and the Luna Pro camera includes Leica Natural, Leica Vivid, and Leica Chrome color profiles, along with 10-bit I-Log, ACES workflow support, and built-in timecode for creators who want more flexibility in post-production.
