Tested: Hands-on with Moment’s new iPhone 16 Camera Case – a solid option for pro and amateur photographers alike

Moment iPhone 16 Camera Case

Moment has been a staple brand around for years, delivering some of the better camera lens attachments in the game while accommodating them by way of its iPhone 16 Camera Case with the built-in Drop-In Lens Mount. It has been popular among readers for good reason, and it’s time to put its new iPhone 16 model to the test to make sure it’s up to par with the Camera Control button and Apple’s latest handset design.

9to5Toys’ Take

Moment has been a major player around in the iPhone accessories space for some years. It doesn’t make the best leather case, or one at all, it doesn’t have 800 different MagSafe chargers and power bricks to sling, or a gigantic lineup of cases…it makes one really good camera case made to link up with its wonderful lens attachment accessories and we are taking a look at the latest model for iPhone 16.

We will touch down at a later time to take a closer look at the actual lens attachments we are currently testing out from the brand, including its new Quicklock filters, but I will leave that part of today’s case review by saying; all of the lens attachments we have here in the office connect to the case wonderfully, securely, and with nothing more than a simple elegant twist into the fixture array surrounding the cameras around back of the iPhone 16 case.

That said, let’s focus in on the case itself and get some of the aesthetics out of the way first. The Moment Camera Case for iPhone 16 comes in four coloways but we have only had a chance to scope out the black and Ivy green models for review this year. I like what I see here in terms of color saturation on the Ivy model and the black variant takes on a sort of less than completely Jet black for something just the tiniest amount lighter.

All of the Moment cases feature a sort of diagonal printing pattern across the hard plastic back of the case that reaches right up until the top third of the backing before it gives way to a flat treatment surrounding the lens attachment fixture. I personally could go with or without this detailing – it looks better on the green model to my eyes, but I don’t hate it.

I also might have preferred it left the “Moment” branding off the back of the case in favor of a more subtle and stealthy embossed treatment along the side or something, but again, it’s not overly offensive for me and I don’t hate it.

The way the case wraps around the front of the phone around the display has a nice, and even somewhat unique curved edge to it that slopes into display. If you’re going to have a bezel of this size, it ought to accomodate swiping from the edge of the screen as well as this case does. I prefer things to be as tight and trim as possible when it comes to case edges around the iPhone’s display, and this could be smaller for my taste, but it does offer some extra protection and does not get in the way of my swiping action at all.

This is a $49.99 case, and anyone who has read my case reviews in the past knows I’m expecting more than a couple key elements to the design because of it – a soft plushy interior and proper metal button covers first and foremost. And I’m happy to report Moment has inpmeneted both. The interior features a soft microfiber-like lining (one of the best I have seen yet in fact) with a slightly embossed logo (super nice touch here even if you can’t see it) as well as solid machined aluminum metal covers for the power button, volume and Action Button. They feel great with an enjoyable clicky feedback, the Action Button haptics come through nicely, and they come in a slightly darker colored tone than your case color of choice. Absolutely no complaints here, they nailed it.

This is a Camera Case from a camera and photography-focused brand, so we must discuss its treatment of the new Camera Control button. One would think a brand like this would have done everything it could to secure some sort of proper capacitive button cover tech as opposed to a cutout, but Moment has not…so it better have nailed the cutout design.

It did.

This is among the best cutouts I have tested to date. While snug to the Camera Control button itself, the sloped edges of the cutout allow the button to remain entirely useable and functional. That includes the light and double presses as well as the sliding action.

I might have preferred a brand focused on iPhoneography unleashed a case with a sapphire crystal control, but I’m happy to report it likely won’t matter to just about anyone who doesn’t need the protection they provide – the cutout is solid here.

Another photograph iPhone case brand, SANDMARC, has now issued a Camera Control button case at the same price as this one, and it’s made of leather (the fist of its kind) with the same sapphire treatment Apple uses for the button, but if you love Moment’s lens attachments and filters, or are already invested in the Moment T-Series Lenses, its new iPhone 16 case is compatible with, you likely won’t be disappointed with the new cover here.

It’s a little thicker than I would want around the sides, it’s a lot more plastic than I usually prefer, and I could do without the diagonal stripping details, but this is otherwise a really nice case. If you liked what Moment has served up for past iPhone generations, you’ll certainly like this one too. If you have invested in the compatible lens attachments and filters, or plan to, this case won’t let you down.
