Following last year’s launch of its first Kindle with a color screen, Amazon is now expanding the lineup with two new additions – a 16GB version of the Colorsoft and a kid-focused model called the Kindle Colorsoft Kids. The Colorsoft Kids is essentially a bundle that includes the new 16GB Colorsoft, a special cover, and one year of its Amazon Kids Plus subscription. The new 16GB Kindle Colorsoft is available for $249.99 shipped, while the Kids bundle costs $269.99. Hit the jump for a closer look and more details.
New Kindle Colorsoft 16GB model now up for grabs
The new 16GB Kindle Colorsoft lands as a relatively affordable model which costs $30 less than the original Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition. Amazon will continue to sell the Signature Edition alongside this new model for folks who want 32GB storage and features like auto-adjusting front light and wireless charging that are missing on the new 16GB model. The new one does retain a lot of the same features, including the IPX8 rating and adjustable warm light, but it only comes in black, unlike the Signature Edition which also comes in metallic finishes.

The Kindle Colorsoft Kids, as previously mentioned, is essentially just a bundle that gets you the new 16GB Kindle Colorsoft with a cover. You get to pick between Fantasy River and Starlight Reading cover options, but the underlying Kindle is essentially the same. It comes with one year of its Amazon Kids Plus subscription, so you can use the parent dashboard to set bedtime timers, educational goals, manage content, and more.

The new Colorsoft model, according to Amazon, has become quite popular among Kindle users who “spend more time on Kindle Colorsoft and read hundreds more pages,” so we’re not surprised to see them doubling down with new models at relatively affordable prices. It’ll be interesting to see how well these new models are received on the market, especially the new Kindle Colorsoft Kids that’ll join the range of Amazon’s kids-friendly gear.
