LEGO unveils upcoming champion-inspired Technic McLaren MCL39 F1 Car, pre-orders now live

Many LEGO fans are still buzzing over the five new Star Wars Mandalorian & Grogu sets that were revealed last week, and today, we’re getting yet another unveiling – this time of a high-octane champion in the form of LEGO’s Technic 42228 McLaren MCL39 F1 Car. This is promising to be quite the collector’s item amongst Technic building sets – and the best part is that it is officially opening for pre-order ahead of its launch, which isn’t very long of a wait if your impatient. Head below to learn more about it and browse all the collected photos.

The upcoming LEGO Technic 42228 McLaren MCL39 F1 Car set is the fifth of the brick-built company’s 1:8 scale Formula 1 car sets, with this particular build honoring the 2025 Constructor’s and WDC champion. Stacking up to 1,675 pieces, it only makes sense that this champion car is getting the brick-built treatment following its domination of the racing scene in 2025.

And fans are getting even more news as this new set is officially open for pre-order, with not much wait time until it ships and hits shelves. The new LEGO Technic 42228 McLaren MCL39 F1 Car set is slated for a March 1, 2026 release at $229.99 shipped, with it also being available to secure on Amazon, though it does seem to have a later shipping date there.

You can expect the usual features that we see across other Technic builds in this new set, especially the F1 car series of LEGO sets, including a realistic recreation of the V6 engine, the suspension, and a DRS activator for the gearbox. The design itself looks really great, especially when compared to the actual racer, and I can already see this set adorning, if not outright headlining collections come March.
