Last week Sony announced sweeping and particularly significant upcoming price hikes across the current-generation PlayStation hardware – PS5 is about to get a whole lot more expensive. Starting this Thursday PS5, PS5 Digital Edition, and PS5 Pro are going to be $100 and $150 more expensive and you might want to score one now before that happens.
- PlayStation 5 Digital Edition (Slim) – 825GB $499 ($600 starting Thursday)
- PlayStation 5 Disc Console (Slim) -1TB $549 ($650 starting Thursday)
- PlayStation 5 Pro Console – 2TB $749 ($900 starting Thursday)
- PlayStation 5 Portal Remote Player $199 ($250 starting Thursday)
These price hikes will raise the suggested retail price on all three console editions as well as the PlayStation 5 Portal remote player starting on April 2, 2026 (this Thursday).
And with units already starting to sell out at retailers like Amazon, if you’re in the market for a machine, or perhaps an upgrade to PS5 Pro, you might want to get in there now. Even if we do see deals in the coming months, or for the holidays laters this year, chances are they are just going to drop the machines back down to the price they are right now anyway – it is very unlikely, for example, to see the PS5 Pro at $150 off the MSRP.
The PS5 Disc Edition and and PS5 Digital edition (this is the latest slim models we are talking about here) are about to be $100 more expensive than they are right now, and the PlayStation 5 Pro is jumping from the current $749 up to $900 later this week.
Hopefully you have already secured and machine and this is just unfortunate news, but if you were looking for an upgrade at some point this year, it might be a good idea to weigh your options now before everything gets significantly more pricey or sells out before the price hike goes live.
