Insta360 is back with another big release for 2026, following the launch of its Luna Ultra earlier this year, and it’s expanding its flagship 360 camera lineup today with the new X6. This new model comes with larger dual sensors, a significantly more powerful processing setup, faster 8K recording, improved low-light performance, built-in storage, and even more AI-powered editing features. Insta360 is also touting the X6 as more than just a 360 camera, with dedicated shooting modes that let it double as a traditional action camera and even a subject-tracking gimbal-style camera. Insta360 X6 arrives with larger sensors and 8K50fps recording
The new Insta360 X6 is equipped with a pair of custom Sony 1/1.1-inch square sensors, which the brand says deliver the equivalent imaging area of a 1-inch setup. These new sensors provide 33% more surface area than the ones on the X5, while also capturing roughly four times as much light per frame. They’re paired with a new triple-chip setup made up of an 8-core 3.3GHz 4nm processor and two dedicated imaging chips, resulting in significantly more processing power while drawing less power than the previous model.
That upgraded hardware allows the X6 to capture full 360-degree footage at up to 8K50fps, giving you more room to shoot everything around you and reframe the shot later. There’s also support for 10-bit color and native in-camera Dolby Vision, along with AdaptiveTone 2.0, which meters the two lenses independently and captures two exposures per frame to help retain more detail in high-contrast scenes.
One of the more interesting aspects of the X6 is how Insta360 is positioning it as a three-in-one camera. In addition to standard 360 capture, InstaFrame 2.0 can automatically lock onto and track people, pets, and other objects while outputting a normal flat 4K video directly from the camera. Pairing it with Insta360’s new Foldable Selfie Stick Remote Kit adds joystick controls for gimbal-style subject tracking, while an optional POV Head Tracker can make the camera follow wherever you’re looking. You can also switch the X6 into single-lens mode and use it more like a traditional action camera. It can record at up to 5K60fps, capture a 170-degree field of view at 5K30fps, or step down to 4K120fps for slow-motion footage.
The camera itself sports a 2.32-inch OLED display that reaches up to 1,200 nits of brightness and supports an always-on mode. Battery capacity has been bumped up to 2,600mAh, which is rated to last for up to 140 minutes of 8K30 360-degree recording. Another welcome upgrade here is built-in storage. The X6 ships with 64GB onboard, of which 47GB is usable, so you can start recording even without a microSD card installed. The camera itself carries an IP68 rating and can go underwater to 20 meters without a case, or down to 60 meters when paired with the Invisible Dive Case Pro.
Interestingly, Insta360 is introducing a new PanoMind AI model alongside the X6, which has been trained specifically around 360-degree footage rather than conventional flat video. Its AI Director feature can analyze footage directly on the camera while it’s charging, automatically build a highlight edit, and send the finished clips to the Insta360 app without uploading the footage to the cloud. There’s also the Auto Edit 2.0 feature for automatically handling framing, camera movement, cuts, music, and transitions across one or multiple clips.
The Insta360 X6 Standard Bundle is priced at $699.99 shipped in the US and includes the camera, a USB-C cable, protective pouch, and a lens cloth.
