Libratone Wi-Fi-enabled speakers have been around for some time, with a Scandinavian-inspired design and quality build. Its ZIPP line of speakers have offered Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity for a while now. Today, Libratone announced a smattering of new portable speakers focused on multi-room audio. Libratone is the latest in a string of companies after a piece of the multi-room audio market. What was previously dominated by SONOS is now littered with options that span every price point. The newly released ZIPPs focus on 360-degree audio and “librerating sound”. Libratone’s new SoundSpaces system brings Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and AirPlay together for a mashup of connectivity options.
SoundSpace allows users to connect up to six speakers at once over Wi-Fi. Much like SONOS, these speakers can be individually controlled and tuned as needed. Libratone CEO Jan McNair details further:
“Today’s consumers expect their sound to be ever-present, portable and flexible. Liberating sound is at the core of the Libratone brand, and the classic ZIPP speakers have always delivered a portable 360° sound experience, customizable covers, and the flexibility to stream anything you want via WiFi or Bluetooth. The new generation of ZIPP speakers continue this proud tradition, and also feature SoundSpace Link, which lets you connect up to 6 speakers via WiFi, place them anywhere in any room and move them around as you wish.”
The larger ZIPP has new a new round design with swappable speaker covers. It is capable of pumping out 100 watts of power, which is nearly 70% more powerful than the previous generation. The smaller ZIPP mini has a familiar design, and has 60 watts of power.
One of the defining differences between Libratone’s new speakers and others on the market is its portability. While there are many Bluetooth and Wi-Fi options available, few are able to move and connect with a built-in 8-10 hour battery like these new ZIPP speakers. Additionally, Spotify Connect and Apple Music compatibility are included. The new Libratone app for iOS and Android controls setup, while individual apps for Spotify, Apple Music and others can be used for playback.
Libratone’s new ZIPP and ZIPP Mini speakers are set to launch in the coming weeks for $250 and $300 respectively.
