If it wasn’t already obvious, CES 2018 is now in full swing with product announcements coming from every direction. The new Roav Viva Bluetooth Alexa assistant for your vehicle surfaced this morning, not to mention huge announcements from LG, Roku, Netgear, TiVo and the gorgeous Alexa-enabled Verdera Mirror. When it comes to the world of STEM, we expected to get some announcements courtesy of Kano and that we are..
Kano had a solid year across 2017 with its Computer Kit Complete, Motion Sensor Kit, and Pixel Kit. The company’s DIY/STEM coding devices are fantastic tools for beginner programmers looking to dabble in everything from physical device design to coding art, games, music, lights and much more.
The company raised over $28 million in Series B finding in 2017 just ahead of its products appearing in national retail chains. Including Target, Walmart, Best Buy, Barnes & Noble, Amazon and more, its STEM kits can now be found in 4,500 retail locations. Kano claims its more than 200,000 builders across the world have created more than 380,000 different apps, games and more using the company’s kits.
We regularly feature deals on just about all of the aforementioned kits here at 9to5Toys, but Kano is set to make its CES debut this year with a brand new prototype.
The new Camera Kit is very much what it sounds like: a new DIY/STEM build looking to “demystify” digital imagery and the like. Users can do everything from create their own photo filters to data-focused GIFs, image capture techniques and more. Details are still somewhat hard to come by here, but we will have more for you as the show rolls on.
Kano has setup a nice registration page for those interested in the new Camera Kit. This is likely the best way to get notified of when it actually becomes available for purchase.
Visit Kano at the Sands booth 43361 or meet us as the Pepcom Digital Experience to code your photo filters with the new Camera Kit, build your own computer, hack Minecraft and code art, lights and games with the Computer Kit Complete, make lights dance with the Pixel Kit and transform real-world movements into fun games and art with the Motion Sensor Kit.
