This morning, popular accessory-maker Nomad unveiled its new Slim Wallet with integrated Tile tracking. Nomad has been known for its quality USA-sourced leather accessories for some time. They lean on this experience with its latest release that combines Horween leather and Tile’s nifty location-based tracking services. I was able to secure an advance unit prior to today’s launch. Head below for a quick look and a few thoughts on the Nomad Slim Wallet.
Out of the Box |
For over three years, I’ve been using a Cord Leather wallet that I featured way back when in our Small States series. I’ve been pretty reluctant to change, as the design has been perfect for my situation. But right out of the box, I was impressed with Nomad’s use of materials and the wallet’s overall look and feel.
If you’ve seen our other reviews of Nomad products, you know that the brand has done an excellent job sourcing quality materials. This trend continues on the new Slim Wallet. The leather is soft and you can quickly see that a nice patina will develop over time.
Nomad designed the Slim Wallet with room for 15 cards in addition to its integrated Tile Tracker. It has a standard bi-fold layout that lacks any type of button or strap to keep it closed. When devoid of any cards, it sits around half and inch tall, bloating from there depending on how much plastic you add.
Tile Tracking |
Admittedly, I’ve been pretty late to the Tile lineup of accessories. It’s been a popular product here at 9to5Toys for some time and we’ve seen integration before. But I’ve not really put it into practice on a personal level. Turns out, I was really missing a helpful piece of tech.
Nomad does a nice job out of the box walking you through the Tile set up process. You’ll of course need to download the iOS and Android apps, and a quick press of the tracker’s power button activates the unit.
From there you can use custom alerts to fit your preferences. My favorite trick is that the app will send a push notification if you leave your wallet behind at home, or its last known location. With a new baby around, and more stuff to haul than ever before, this is particularly helpful for this first-time father.
Should I buy it? |
Great question. Nomad is listing the new Slim Wallet at $79.95, which may strike some as particularly expensive while other’s may see it as a value. Given that a Tile Slim costs around $30, you’re basically paying $40 for the wallet itself. I’d call that an excellent value given the quality of materials used here.
If you want to upgrade your wallet and might find location tracking helpful, I whole-heartedly recommend Nomad’s new Slim Wallet. It’s available for purchase today direct from Nomad.
