Update: Amazon just just announced Sunday delivery for Prime members in New York, and LA with coverage expanding in 2014. Just another reason why Prime makes sense for frequent Amazon shoppers.

Amazon has quietly restructured their free shipping policy to only apply to orders of at least $35, an increase of $10 over the previous threshold of $25. Clearly it won’t affect high-priced items, but it can increase the price of smaller items substantially depending on the number of items ordered. This makes an Amazon Prime membership even more valuable.

We considered Prime a ‘no-brainer’ before and yesterday’s policy change only laminates our beliefs even further. Prime members receive free 2-day shipping on millions of items offered by Amazon direct, and deeply discounted 1-day shipping options. Shipping savings alone (especially during the holidays) can justify the price of a Prime membership, but members can also enjoy unlimited streaming of 41,000 movies and TV shows, and over 350,000 Kindle books for free.

Amazon Prime is a yearly $79 membership, but you can try it out free for 30 days. Student discounts are also available. You could also opt to simply ‘pad’ your orders to meet the $35 minimum, but you’d probably be able to pay for a Prime membership with that extra money spent throughout the year. Bottom line is that you are going to need to slightly alter your buying habits on Amazon to receive free shipping and we think opting for a Prime membership is the way to go.

Amazon has just dropped the price on both the Moto X and the LG G2. Both the Android devices were unveiled back in August to positive reviews are now available on Amazon starting at just $100.

The Moto X began seeing price drops fairly soon after release, but now Amazon is offering a new two year contract (or upgrade) on AT&T or Verizon for just $100, as we previously expected. It boasts a 4.7-inch display and a 10MP rear camera that shoots full 1080p HD footage.

LG, which is rumored to be making Google’s next-generation Nexus smartphone, dropped the price on the G2 to $199 back in September, and has now made it available on Verizon for $100 and on AT&T for $150. The G2 comes with a larger 5.2-Inch screen and a 13MP camera that also captures full 1080p video.

Amazon is offering their largest eReader, the Kindle DX, for $189 with free shipping. That’s the lowest price ever by $50. This 9.7″ eReader features an e-ink display perfect for long reading sessions even in direct sunshine, a physical keyboard to easily search for any book title, and audio playback via a 3.5mm headphone jack or built-in stereo speakers. Every Kindle DX includes free global 3G access for downloading books on-the-go. Nearly 4,210 Amazon reviewers rate it 4 out of 5 stars.

If you’re looking for a smaller eReader be sure to check out the recently updated 6″ Kindle Paperwhite.

Apple quietly updated their entire iMac lineup yesterday and they are pretty much the only game in town currently shipping the new desktop computers. This spells trouble for savvy buyers looking for a deal. It will take a week or so for authorized resellers (Best Buy, Newegg, B&H, etc) to stock each iMac model and only then will we start to see any sort of appreciable discount. It should be noted that MacMall is currently showing a $5 discount across the board but they are not specifying ship times. Amazon is also offering preorders.

Authorized resellers typically offer the best deals thanks to potential tax savings (at the time of purchase) and a higher propensity to offer discounts as way to be competitive. We saw $50 discounts only a month after the new Haswell MacBook Airs were released, so it shouldn’t be too long until the new iMacs see a price drop.

If you simply hold of purchasing a new iMac it is best to go directly through Apple and use any discounts that may apply to you (education, military, corporate, etc). If you are planning to add AppleCare to your new iMac be sure to grab it from an authorized reseller as their prices typically trump Apple direct.

Late last night Amazon updated the Kindle Fire lineup with the all-new Kindle HDX tablets and a fresh spin on the Fire HD. We are going to focus on the updated Fire HD models because it has pretty much become the absolute best low-cost tablet.

Starting at just $139, the ‘new’ Kindle Fire HD sports a slimmer industrial design with beautifully beveled edges, new Fire OS 3.0, and support for the innovative origami covers. On the flip-side, the 2013 Kindle Fire HD hardware remains mostly the same. It has a 7 inch 1,280 x 800 display, 1.5GHz dual-core processor, and built-in dual-band WiFi. The ‘special offers’ may actually be useful as Amazon promises exclusive deals similar to their Lightning promotions. Amazon Prime members can now download Prime Instant Videos.

From a deal standpoint the new Kindle Fire HD is a no-brainer. This model brings new features and a price tag that is $60 less than its predecessor. While it won’t stand toe to toe with other lower-priced powerhouse tablets like the Nexus 7 ($229) or even its big-brother the Kindle Fire HDX ($229 and up), it does set a new standard for budget tablets. The 2013 Kindle Fire HD is now available for preorder and is scheduled to ship on October 2nd.

Apple’s newest mobile operating system, iOS7, brings great new features and a beautiful design but unfortunately it has also rendered many 3rd party Lightning accessories useless. Apple’s Made For iPhone program certifies that accessories are safe to charge and sync your Apple devices. Each Lightning accessory even has a tiny chip that certifies the accessory as MFi. There has been a constant cat and mouse game with Apple and 3rd party companies who attempt to circumvent this certification. These same companies promise future compatibility with iOS7 but  it is hardly worth it anymore to buy these cables to save a few bucks. There are dozens of solid MFi options which offer Apple reliability and terrific value.

Head below for the best MFi (Made For iPhone) certified Lightning cables on the market.

In general we love the Amazon Basics Lightning cables which are fully MFi compliant, come in 3 different lengths and get absolutely stellar reviews from past purchasers. We do periodically see prices as low as $9 on bulk packaged Apple official cables, so be sure to follow 9to5Toys to keep up to date with the latest deals: Twitter, RSS Feed, Facebook, Google+. If you can’t wait and have to have Apple official cables your best bet is at Amazon. Keep in mind that 3rd party companies are now making MFi extended battery cases. In fact, you can grab a 2-port USB car charger and Lightning cable for nearly the same price Apple charges for just the cable.

Update (7/30 8:15am): Belkin MIXIT↑ metallic Lightning cables are available in gold, silver, and gray (just like your iPhone) and feature a more durable braided cable.

Best overall value: Amazon Basics $14 w/ free shipping for Prime members/orders exceeding $25 or 3′ Monprice cable (black or white): $12 + $1.83 shipping

Best colored options: iFrogz by ZAGG, available in 7 colors $19 w/ free shipping (no longer available)

Best coiled cable: 4′ Griffin $25 + $3.50 shipping

Best looking: Moshi premium aluminum $20 w/ free shipping

Best extra-long cable: 6′ Amazon Basics cable for $15 w/ free shipping for Prime members/orders exceeding or 6′ Monoprice (black or white) $12.78 + $2 shipping

Update (7/16 2:30pm): Save 25% on Nomad’s new carabiner, key & credit card sized MFi Lightning cables

Honorable mentions:

Update (8/22 2:00pm): Monoprice now offers a MFi Lightning keychain w/ stowaway 6-inch cable for $14.99.

• Griffin retractable Lightning cable $25 + $3.50 shipping

• Scosche smartSTRIKE 2-in-1 Lightning or micro USB to USB $25 + free shipping
• Kero Lightning keychain cable $20

Car Chargers: There are a couple ways to get Lightning charging while on-the-go. The most low-cost and easiest way is to simply plug a loose MFi Lightning cable (from above) into a built-in USB port in your car. If your car doesn’t come equipped with a USB port the next best option is your cigarette lighter. I recommend buying a loose USB car charger, 10 watt preferred for quick charge, for maximum flexibility. You can plug any USB cable in there and charge a multitude of devices. The total cost is also lower because you can use the cable that came with your device. The other option is a car charger with bulit-in Lightning cable. This option is less flexible but makes it easier because the cable is not detachable.

Our picks for the best MFi Lightning car charging solutions:

Loose USB car charger: Belkin Car Charger 2.1 AMP/10 Watts $14 (Amazon direct)

Charger w/ built-in cable: Griffin PowerJolt SE $25 + $3.50 shipping

Loose charger and cable combo: AmazonBasics Lightning cable + 2-port USB car charger $19 w/ free shipping – Same price as a standalone Lightning cable from Apple!

This deal matches the recent Apple Store promotion but is a bit better thanks to Amazon Prime benefits and potential tax savings at the time of purchase.

The Bose Quiet Comfort 15 headphones feature a comfortable around-the-ear fit,  remote / mic with full compatibility for Apple devices, and an average battery life of 25 hours on two AAA batteries. Perhaps the most important feature of these headphones is the ability to reduce noise across a wide spectrum of frequencies. Bose details how they are able to achieve this:

Within every pair of QC15 headphones, advanced electronics use microphones inside and outside each earcup to sense the sounds around you-and reduce the noise. Proprietary ear cushion technology blocks some of the noise before it even reaches your ears. Together, these Bose innovations add up to a more enjoyable listening experience.

Reviewers tend to agree with Bose that these headphones are amazing, rating them an outstanding 4.5 stars.
