Sonos can now stream your music in even more places with its new BOOST accessory

Sonos-Boost

Sonos, the makers of the popular whole home audio solution, has announced a new addition to its line of products that will help take your music listening experience further than ever before. The new BOOST accessory for Sonos can replace the previously required BRIDGE and is capable of broadcasting a signal nearly 50% further than before.

Focusing on improving their much discussed “rock solid wireless”, the BOOST delivers a 360 degree wireless signal that Sonos claims matches performance of enterprise grade routers on the market.

While the BRIDGE is no longer required in a Sonos setup, there are certainly some reasons to consider these add-ons when purchasing your system. The BOOST is able to broadcast signals with greater power than the BRIDGE or any of the speakers in the Sonos line-up. Without, the network relies on the built-in access points on the speakers, which do not have the same amount of power for broadcasting the signal.

The ability to create a dedicated Sonos network is definitely something worth considering when building your system. Certainly in most instances the BRIDGE is going to provide enough signal strength for at-home setups. However, if you live in an older home or would like to setup your Sonos system in an outdoor eating area or pool house for example, then the BOOST is likely your best bet.

In my experience, I found that my Sonos system works the best when the BRIDGE is centrally located in the house. Living in a home built in the 1860’s, some of the building materials used during that time period can interfere with wireless signals. It appears that BOOST would solve those issues while also handling the same duties already expected from the BRIDGE.

Sonos offers a variety of speaker solutions that fit nearly every setup that is required from most home users. We are particularly fond of the PLAY:1 speakers, which at $199 are a great option for pumping sound to your kitchen or bathroom. You can even pair them with the PLAYBAR and SUB to create a home theater system without wires.

In addition to a quality build, Sonos is capable of handling a variety of streaming services such as Spotify, Beats Music and Pandroa in addition to your own media library. The recently updated app for iOS and Android brings all of your music to one place for playback.

The Sonos BOOST is available today for $99 directly from Sonos or through Amazon.
