Moleskin teams up with Adobe to take your notes and sketches from paper to the cloud

Products like the Livescribe smartpens, Pencil by FiftyThree and other digital notebook products help artists and designers get their ideas from the real world into a virtual one. Moleskin, a company who has been dabbling in digital notebook technology for a while now, is introducing a new smart notebook system in collaboration with Adobe to help users digitize their ideas to the cloud.

While there are a few products already available in this space as mentioned, its direct integration with Adobe’s popular suite of design apps allows the new Moleskine Smart Notebook differentiate itself:

Hand drawn sketches in the new smart notebook must be scanned via the free Moleskin iOS app, before being made available in the cloud. Special markings on the pages help the app to properly scan the sketches or notes into JPG or SVG files. Using an Adobe Creative Cloud membership, scanned images can then be synced for further editing in Photoshop or as vectors in Adobe Illustrator.

Currently, there is one compact 5 x 8.25-inch model available, which seems to fit in with Moleskin’s goal to let “you focus on the idea when you’re offline, out of the studio or in transit, then elaborate it when you’re back at your workplace.” While this can certainly be done with other apps and the aforementioned smart pens, some will certainly appreciate the direct Adobe integration and traditional writing/sketching experience. Here are some other features of the notebook itself:

  • Hard cover debossed with custom Adobe design
  • Rounded corners
  • Red Elastic closure
  • Red bookmark ribbon
  • Ivory colored paper with markers in the corners
  • Paper weight 120g/m² – 81 lb acid-free paper
  • 13×21 cm – 5″ x 8.25″
  • instructions booklet

Pre-orders for the new Adobe integrated Moleskine Smart Notebook are currently available for $39.95 with an expected shipping date of December 31st directly from Moleskin.com.
