Today, TP-LINK has announced a new line of affordable Smart Wi-Fi LED bulbs, entering an already crowded space. The recently remade brand hopes its latest smart home product will standout from the pack because of its lack of a required hub. Starting at $20, TP-Link is using aggressive pricing to make a case for your light socket.
Each of these new LED bulbs have a built-in Wi-Fi radio for connecting to your network. After inserting the light in to a socket, you’ll use an iPhone or Android device to communicate with the bulb. From there, you can re-name it, adjust settings and secure connection with your wireless router. The free smartphone app brings brightness controls and lighting schedules to the mix, as you’d expect. One of our favorite features is the ability to control individual bulbs by your voice via Amazon Echo and Alexa. These are standard A19 bulbs that will fit in most sockets found in American homes.
Pricing starts at $20 with the 50-watt LB100. It is a dimmable bulb that can be adjusted via the app and is rated to be 80% more energy efficient than a traditional incandescent option.
Jumping up to $25, the 60-watt LB110 brings a brighter light that clocks in at 800 lumens. For maximum customization, you’ll want to reach for the top-of-the-line LB120. Also at 60-watt, this $35 bulb allows users to adjust the temperature of the light from 2,700K to 6,500K. Those colors are generally described as being “soft white” and “daylight”.
TP-LINK’s new smart bulbs are available for purchase today from Amazon and ship with a two-year warranty.
