It’s that time of year again where the air conditioning units are starting to kick on as warmer temperatures return again. Ambi Labs is making a return to Kickstarter to raise funds for its second generation Ambi Climate 2. After successfully releasing its first iteration (and shipping) the latest version brings smartphone and Alexa control to your air conditioning units alongside a handful of new features.

The all-new design strays from the usual ugly plastic smart hub we typically see in favor of a new, sleeker version that would look fine out in the open. Combined with the ability to work with just about any infrared-controlled AC unit and we might just be on to something here.

Ambi Climate does more than just replace your infrared control, it has proprietary learning algorithms that are designed to adhere to your preferences. There are claims that users have saved around 20% on energy costs over the previous two-plus years since the original was released. Ambi Labs’ newest version hopes to expand on those returns even further.

The new model features the previously mentioned minimalist design that is a blend of white and black plastics, as well as a wooden base. A bevy of sensors sit across the top that are designed to detect temperature, humidity as well as sunlight. Combined with weather tracking data in the smartphone app, Ambi Climate will in theory help predict your needs ahead of any temperature changes.

One way that Ambi looks to differ from the competition is using a comfort scale that skips out on the usual temperature-based controls you might see on a ecobee or Nest. On a scale of freezing to hot, users select how they are currently feeling and the app takes that into account. Perhaps you don’t know the difference between 70 and 74-degrees, but the ability to label it on a continuum of comfort may strike a chord with some users. Of course, the usual temperature-driven controls are available as well.

Ambi Climate 2 offers similar smart features we’ve come to expect from most releases coming to market these days. That includes smartphone control and multi-use geo location capabilities. As well, Ambi will be introducing Alexa controls during Q3 of this year.

Having already reached its initial funding goal on Kickstarter, Ambi Climate is currently available for around $99 as an Early Bird pledge. It’s slated to ship worldwide in July, just in time for the heat of summer!
