Amazon unveils new Dash Wand w/ built-in Alexa + free $20 credit

$20

Since launching its first iteration of the Dash button several years ago, Amazon has continued to expand its offerings with other gadgets geared towards helping you around the home. Amazon has now introduced a new low-cost way to add its Alexa assistant to your life with the new Dash Wand with Alexa.

The ubiquity of Alexa-enabled devices continues to grow like crazy, and there’s no signs that Amazon is looking to halt this trend. Fitting into a waterproof housing, Amazon now combines the intelligence of its line of Echo speakers with the portability of its Dash buttons into the new Dash Wand. While some may remember Amazon’s last attempt at its Dash Wand, the new version sports one key upgrade that will surely make all the difference, built-in Alexa.

Unlike the other gadgets in Amazon’s arsenal of household assistants, the Dash Wand is geared towards use specifically in the kitchen, the focal point in which a majority of its features and perks revolve. Most prominently, the device houses a built-in barcode scanner so that once you start running low on juice or any other item, you can easily add it to your Amazon cart with a quick scan.

The Dash Wand also sports practically all of the functionally Alexa supports on the Echo and other devices. There is one small caveat though, as you won’t be able to stream any music to it. Otherwise you’ll have no problems summoning Alexa to help you convert measurements, set timers, order household items or anything else you may rely on your virtual assistant for.

The new Dash Wand is now available for Prime members from Amazon for $20 Prime shipped. Similar to its less-expensive Dash button friends, you’ll receive a credit good for the $20 off your next purchase, which if you’re an active Amazon shopper makes the device essentially free to try out. To sweeten the pot, Amazon also throws in a free 90-day trial of its AmazonFresh grocery delivery service.
