Digital assistants have brought improvements to many facets of our lives; although helping us become better chefs isn’t necessarily on the list. But now our Amazon Echo and Google Home should have no problem assisting the kitchen, thanks to a helping hand from the Klove Knob. Touted as being a personalized sous-chef for everyone, it looks to give you the edge you need to go from cooking novice to pro.
Devices like the Amazon Echo are great for converting measurements or setting timers, but that implies you know exactly how long to roast that turkey or bake a fancy dessert. Tackling these cooking and baking issues is where the Klove Knob excels. Housed within a palm-sized form-factor, the device serves as an addition to your existing digital assistant.
Adding smartphone or internet connectively to a household appliance typically involves just straight up replacing it with a ‘smarter’ model. But this isn’t the case with Klove, which acts as a replacement for your existing stove’s knobs. Not only does this design cut down on the cost, but makes it much less of a headache to connect the appliance with your Echo or Google Home.
Right as you start preparing your meal, Klove Knob begins monitoring the stove’s heating settings. After letting Klove know what you’ll be preparing, either through the iOS and Android app or your preferred digital assistant, it takes over the guesswork. So just as your skillet reaches the perfect temperature, you can start beginning cooking your dish. And once it’s finished, Klove will alert you as well, effectively removing the need to constantly check to see if your meal is ready.
Setting itself apart from other kitchen assistants, Klove understands that you may like your chicken a little more well done than the average person. So it learns from your preferences and cooking habits in order adjust its open timers and suggestions. While it is packed with information on common foods and dishes, the Klove Knob can also learn unknown meals as well.
If you think your cooking skills could use a boost, the Klove Knob is currently being funded on Indiegogo, where it has raised just under $4,000 towards the $20,000 campaign goal. Starting at the early bird price of $29, you’ll be able to outfit your stove with the cooking assistant. If all goes well in the following month, the device is said to be shipping in November.
